Excellent Experts and Emotional Experiences!

What a really interesting couple of days we have had in Year 3 and 4 with our expert visitors.

We had the really informative talk from Claire at the Canals and Rivers Trust yesterday. She helped us to understand the causes of flooding and ways that we can protect people from flooding.

Then, today, we had an emotional talk from Mrs Poncia, who was flooded out of her home in 2019 during the Fishlake Floods. She gave us a very personal account of everything her family went through, including photographs and video clips. The talk was brilliant preparation for the poetry writing we are going to do next week – I am really looking forward to getting started and I think the children are too!

We recorded both talks, so if you were unable to join them live, you can see them on the Experts and Visitors page of our Expedition Website. Access the website by following this link:https://sites.google.com/ploverschool.co.uk/plover-y3-4-natural-disasters/home

Well done everyone who has been working so hard, in school and at home, keep going, you are making your teachers proud.

Thursday 28th January

Good Morning

Big shout out to everyone who took part in the talk about floods from the Canal and Rivers Trust. I was so impressed by the brilliant contributions and how you took part.

I am really looking forward to this afternoon, when my friend, Mrs Poncia, is going to talk to us about her experience during the Fishlake Flood of 2019. You will get a join code to join the Google Meet starting at 1:15. It will really help with our poetry writing.

Well done for the work you have been submitting and keep working hard

Good Morning Year 4,

Mrs Foster and Mrs Bailey and Miss Lotysz were very pleased with your effort with your learning yesterday, well done and keep it up.

Today we have something special planned.

We sadly cannot take you out on field trips at the moment, so we have arranged the next best thing! This morning we have invited an expert to talk to you from the Canals and Rivers Trust. She is going to deliver a workshop to help us extend our learning on rivers and flooding. This will help us with our final product.

She will be online at 9:15 so please follow the link on Google Classroom to take you to the talk.

I will be recording the talk so we can access it at other times to help with our work.

I am really looking forward to seeing you on the call.

Shout outs!

Well done on a great start to the week with today’s learning. My shout outs today go to Shyaw (4L) for a fantastic English piece of writing and to Esther (4G) for trying really hard with today’s maths exit ticket.

Keep it up Year 4!

Here is Shyaw’s English work from today, I wonder if you can access your classrooms and have a go at writing your own.

Beside the castle of Kurdistan,

Has golden, stiff, sandy rocks,

People are taking a stroll around,

Trying to look really proud.

A long precious path leads ways,

Step after step up the tall path,

In summer time or on any day,

And a delightful view of the city.

Well done Year 3/4

At the end of another busy week I would just like to say a few ‘thank yous’.

Firstly, to the tireless staff in Year 3/4, who have been working so hard to plan and deliver lessons online and in person, to support children emotionally and academically, to make phone calls and ensure everyone is safe and well and to guarantee that our expedition continues to capture the children’s imagination.

Secondly, to all you lovely supportive parents – we know many of you are juggling the roles of parent, teacher and worker all from home, trying to sort out IT problems and encourage children to learn, even when they are reluctant.

And finally, to the the children of year 3 and 4 who continue to brighten our days both in person and online. It has been a real pleasure seeing how much enthusiasm they have had for their learning and the positive attitudes they have had. They have been supportive of each other and resilient to the difficulties of trying to learn when videos keep buffering or they can’t write on a document.

Well done guys, it is a real team effort and through these challenges we will grow stronger.

From a very proud Phase Leader
