Crew Chapman: Aeroplane Maths!

This week in Maths, our learning is all about aeroplanes. Our first challenge was to find the quickest way to calculate the number of seats on an aeroplane based on a seating plan. We collaborated by sharing our ideas and testing them. We had a good range of methods used, using a mix operations. Kian gave the quickest method. His calculation was: 25 x 6 – 2. A shout out goes to Layla and Sofia. Their method was not the quickest but was efficient: (24 x 3) x2 + 4.

They were also challenged to work out how many more tickets were needed to be sold to earn the airline Ā£25, 000. Again there were some great collaborative learning in the lesson. Caris was able to identify the steps he needed to take to work it out. Harry, Xavier and Jack persevered until they found the answer.

It has been wonderful today to see the children’s creativity in Maths. Awesome, Crew Chapman!

Wonderful World Book Day

We had a great day celebrating books at Plover. There were all sorts of characters walking around from Gangsta Granny to Mr and Mrs Twit; Mary Poppins and Wonky Donkey; Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf in Grandma’s clothing- plus lots, lots more!

We had lots of potato photos for the potato character competition and some great reviews on the Padlet – check out the books that have been recommended – they are bound to make you LOL!

Our Masked Reader competition was very popular – well done to Harper in 4G for correctly identifying all 20 of the Masked Readers

We have lots of photos of the day so check out our World Book Day Website for many more: https://sites.google.com/ploverschool.co.uk/ploverworldbookday2021/home

We are TTRockstar Superstars!

The competition continues… This week we are celebrating accuracy successes over the last seven days. Top of this leader board for Y6, with an unbelievable 100% accuracy, is Oliver Mc. Harrison and Marley were the runners up. Y5’s champion is Paras with 98% accuracy! Close behind him were Demi-Lea and Gabby. A great achievement for both boys. Well done everyone and keep up the hard work.

Additional shout out to Coby who remains to be the overall leader of the entire school – what a Rock Hero!

The Masked Reader

Take a look at our World Book Day website! Children have looked at the website during Crew this morning. We currently have a lot of excitement in school as children ask one another, ‘Who’s that behind the book?’ Each day leading up to World Book Day, 4 masked readers will be added to the site with clues to their identity. Can you guess who is behind each book?

Are you feeling inspired? Why not send a picture of yourself, with your face hidden behind a book, to your teacher. You could try other ways to disguise your identity too! You can also write your own clues to try and help your peers work out who is hiding!

Our assembly with David Walliams!

Years 5&6 are so lucky to able to join David Walliams in his live assembly this morning. A huge shout out to Noahā€™s mum in 5W for letting me know about this awesome opportunity! The children really enjoyed learning about David Walliams and his inspiration behind his books! He answered lots of questions and it was a great assembly!

He even read to us- an extract from his book ā€˜Fingā€™

Times Tables Rockstars…

The competition is heating up in upper KS2 but who has made it to the top of the leaderboard this week?

The individual competition had an out and out winner in Y6…well done Coby! Iā€™ve never seen such a whizz on the keyboard as you when youā€™re battling away! Your crew mates are really proud of you.

We also thought this was the case with Y5 until last night when the person who had been at the top for so long finally got caught and then beaten by 2 seconds! Well done Ella your grit and determination got you there. Be proud!

But which class took the title this week? It was 5K! Well done everyone for a super crew effort!

Accelerated Reader League

This is becoming my favourite part of the Pride of Plover Assembly, announcing which class is the winner of the Accelerated Reader League!

Congratulations to 6C who have passed the most quizzes, for two weeks running.Ā  However, 6B was very close – it was tight by only 1.6%!

A shoutout goes to 3L, who have been in the top 3 places for the last three weeks.

1st place: 6C

2nd place: 6B

3rd place: 3L

We have seen an increase in the number of quizzes passed for most classes, which means lots of reading and quizzing is happening- both at home and in school!Ā  Keep up the awesome reading KS2.
