I need to give all of 6B a shout out for maths learning this morning! We used sweets to support us when finding percentages of amounts. The children were awesome and really grappled with their learning and they really challenged themselves to achieve their MEās. Itās fantastic to see how their collaboration skills have developed this year and I am so proud! Keep it up superstars! -Miss Blackham
I canāt believe that there have only been 4 days at school this wee, we seem to have done so much!
In English, we have developed our speaking and listening skills by creating role plays about a disastrous visit to a dentist. We followed this up by starting our extended piece of creative writing – a diary entry about a disastrous visit to a dentist! We are being inspired by the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Demon dentist.
In Expedition, we had stomach churning investigations into how our digestive system works. We researched the functions of the parts of the digestive system and then things got a little bit messy when we created our own digestive system with bananas, orange juice, biscuits and a pair of tights!
A great week has been topped-off with todayās NSPCC number day. We have shared the book āHow many Jellybeansā which showed us exactly what 1 million jellybeans looks like. That inspired us to investigate different aspects of maths using jelly beans! We have weighed, timed, created 3D shapes, graphed, estimated and much more – and then we got to eat Jellybeans – win win!
I am so proud of working with the children and adults in LKS2, their hard work and enthusiasm makes me look forward to coming to work every day!
Today, Noah, Lola and Agrima represented crew 5/6 and took the money we raised for Markham Main mining memorial to Dennis along with copies of our anthology of poems. The poems will be placed on a plaque to go inside the memorial garden. We feel proud of our mining community and we desperately wanted to give something back to them once we had learnt all about the miners and how they shaped Doncaster in our last Expedition. The sponsored walk was an amazing way to raise funds and weād like to thank everyone who took part and sponsored our pupils. The anthology of poems are available to purchase for Ā£1 each and the money raised will be donated to Markham Main. We are so proud of you all 5/6! -Miss Blackham
Well done to the lovely Lola for winning the yellow T-shirt award this week! Lola has been amazing in maths and has shown great resilience. She has worked so hard to ensure she achieved her ME and she also produced a stunning (and very informative) poster on steel in Expedition! Keep it up superstar! -Miss Blackham
We have 2 fantastic yellow t-shirt winners this week.
Brendan has settled really well into Plover. He has been very kind, sharing and making lots of new friends. Well done Brendan.
Charlie has been working hard all week to get a 4 in his HOWLs. The rest of the class have been really proud of his attitude to learning this week. Well done Charlie.
A huge shout out to Summah and Nishal for winning an award from Doncaster stories for the amazing poetry they submitted during lockdown. What a fantastic achievement you two! We are so proud!
I am so proud of these three boys who have won the Plover post cards this week. They have been amazing role models and produced some awesome work in Expedition! Keep it up boys!
5W have been keeping up the great work this week! We have taken part in some more Science experiments. This week we delved into exploring what happens to different solutes when mixed with water. We found that some solutes such as sugar dissolved whereas others like pepper and gravy granules had a different effect on the water. The children learnt a lot about scientific vocabulary and had a fantastic time reflecting on what they learnt.
6B have been super scientists throughout the whole of case study one. The scientific vocabulary they have been using during their experiments has been amazing! In this session, the children were testing materials to see if they were soluble or insoluble. We saw some awesome predictions before the experiment and some great reflections after the experiment! I am really proud of you 6B! Well done!
