Times Tables Rockstars…

The competition is heating up in upper KS2 but who has made it to the top of the leaderboard this week?

The individual competition had an out and out winner in Y6…well done Coby! I’ve never seen such a whizz on the keyboard as you when you’re battling away! Your crew mates are really proud of you.

We also thought this was the case with Y5 until last night when the person who had been at the top for so long finally got caught and then beaten by 2 seconds! Well done Ella your grit and determination got you there. Be proud!

But which class took the title this week? It was 5K! Well done everyone for a super crew effort!

Dunkin Doughnut Winners!

Well done to Layla and Paras for winning the box of Dunkin Doughnuts.  I know that everybody’s mouths were watering when they saw the boxes in the Pride of Plover Assembly this morning, including my own.

A huge shout out goes to everybody in Year 5 and 6 as there were lots of entries.  Nearly everybody had at least one raffle ticket, meaning children who are at home and in school have been reading.

Keep up the awesome reading!

More gorgeous Expedition work!

Shang’s presentation

A shout out to Shang and Jasmine for sharing their gorgeous Expedition work with me today. I am so impressed with the efforts you have both put in. Jasmine has created a flow chart on how coal is formed and Shang has created some slides based on the day in the life of a child miner. I am so proud of you both girls- well done and please keep it up!

Our mining expert visitor!

We are so lucky to have been able to have a Q&A session with Mr Taylor who worked down the mine in Rossington for 15 years. He shared all of his experiences, stories and he answered all of the questions the children had. We found out what job role he had, the hours he worked, the conditions he worked in, what he enjoyed the most and much more! The children learnt so much and were so hooked in!

Thank you Mr Taylor!

And the winners are…

Every time a pupil passed a quiz on Accelerated Reader their name was entered into a prize draw to win a box of Dunkin Doughnuts.  The staff in Year 5/6 were pleased with the amount of quizzes that have been passed over the last few weeks – however there can only be two winners.

I am delighted to announce that Paras in Year 5 and Layla in Year 6 are our winners and they will be receiving their doughnuts in school tomorrow.  I hope they are sharing with me.

Well done to everybody who entered the competition and please keep reading and quizzing.  Now which class is going to be at the top of the league on Friday?  #LovePlover!

Reading competition winners

Well done to all the children who took part in the reading challenge. The winners have been chosen. There are 2 winners – 1 for F1 and 1 for F2.

The winners will receive Dunkin Donuts.

The winners are Aarav and Paisley. I am not surprised that you are the winners as you two read more than anyone else. Well done. The prize will be coming to you at the end of the week.

Today, years 5&6 had an exciting zoom call with the author of our anchor text ‘The Skry pit kids’ -Jacqueline Bellew.
Jacqueline discussed the inspiration behind writing the book and the children had lots of opportunities to ask questions about the text. They really are enjoying the text so much and it was amazing to have the opportunity to talk to the author!

Sponsored walk for mining memorial!

Well done to all the children in 5/6 who are completing, or have already completed the sponsored walk to raise money to add a plaque to the Armthorpe miners memorial. Any donations no matter how big or small are greatly appreciated and will help us leave a lasting legacy from Plover children at the memorial.

You still have time to join in if you haven’t already and there will be a prize for the child in each class who raises the most money.

Thank you to everyone for their support in this event. We really appreciate it. Please remember to send pictures/videos of your walks to [email protected] so we can celebrate your achievements of this Expedition.
