80-80-80 Daily Mile 1 – Complete

The children in Year 3 and 4 completed the first of their Daily Miles today when they ran round the school field FIVE times!

It came as a bit of a shock for some, but I am very proud of how seriously the children took their running and how they stuck at it to complete the distance .

We had a timer running so the children can see how their times improve over the next couple of weeks.

They were certainly ready for their lunch when they finished! Sadly I haven’t got any pictures today, as I was running myself – but I will be certain to get some tomorrow!

Competition Time!

The Junior Rangers from the Friends of Sandall Park are holding a competition to help to decorate and promote their notice board in Sandall Park. All you need to do is to create your own nature themed poster or nature themed poem and hand it in to your teachers before the deadline on 2nd July. There are prizes for the winning entries and your work will be displayed in the park! If you would like to find out any more information about the Junior Rangers, or would like to register your child with the group, please email [email protected].

Have fun!

Inspiring Guest Speaker for LKS2

We were thrilled to welcome local hero, Ray Matthews into school today to talk to the children in LKS2. He even made time to present our Pride of Plover Awards.

Ray is an inspirational runner, who for his 75th birthday ran 75 marathons in 75 days. He has also run 252 miles in 3 days, completed an Iron Man challenge and run across the desert.

He has raised thousands of pounds for charity and his latest challenge is just in time for his 80th birthday: Ray wants 80 schools to run 80 miles and raise at least £80 in aid of Age UK.

This seems like a challenge that we simply cannot ignore – especially as it supports our expedition, “How can we make Doncaster more healthy?”.

So every day, from Monday, we are going to do the daily mile, either walking or running around the school field – and the grown ups are doing it too! The children are quite excited and are making pledges, and raising money for charity is a great bonus.

LKS2 children can come to school in trainers and shorts to make it easier for us to complete the daily mile and we will be in touch with details of how you can support our challenge at home.

4G Pride of Plover

Congratulations Esther, you have worked so hard on the writing of your explanation text this week, wanting to work on it outside of lesson time too! You have taken so much care to include the year 4 writing features, as well as making it really interesting too.

Well done!

Ice-pop sale!

Today we managed to raise £60 on our ice pop sale so thank you so much to everyone who bought one. Some children were too excited to eat their ice pops that they didn’t want a photo. We know some children had forgotten their money so please don’t worry, we will be selling ice pops again next week.

80:80:80 – Plover are Getting Active with Ray Matthews

Last Friday in KS1, and this morning in KS2, we had the inspirational and extraordinary Ray Matthews – a true role model!

Ray is an avid sportsman and a national icon, due to the astonishing achievements he has accomplished and vast amount of fundraisers he has done during his 79 years.

In a few weeks Ray turns 80, and 80 schools, will be completing 80 miles to raise money for Rays chosen charity Age UK! https://www.peoplesfundraising.com/donation/rays808080birthdaychallenge

As a school we see the importance of physical activity and exercise, and therefore from Monday we will be making a stand as a whole school crew, to complete the daily mile every single day – all children and all staff!

Check out the the truly astonishing video of Ray below!

Work hard – Challenge yourself – Get active – Feel great!

4G Pride of Plover

Congratulations to Carley, our Pride of Plover this week. Carley only joined us last Monday but the class strongly felt that she should receive the Yellow T-Shirt for how well she had worked and settled in!

Well Done Carley!

4G’s Fabulous Fruit Tasting!

Another big thank you to Mrs Kibble for organising the delivery of fruit yesterday. It was a great experience for some children to try new fruits they had never tried before, for example pomegranate, that proved a bit of a hit with some!

Here are some more of the photos from the day!

Healthy Eating Week

Today is Day 1 of Healthy Eating Week.

We started the day by thinking about how healthy we are and then had a special assembly from the British Nutrition Foundation that taught us about the key things to do:

  • Eat 5 a day fruit and vegetable
  • drink 6-8 glasses of water (or milk)
  • eat lots of fibre with whole grain
  • exercise or be active for an hour a day
  • chouse healthy options of food.

Children have their own tracker this week to record how healthy they are.

This morning/afternoon, thanks to Ethan’s mum, Mrs Kibble, we are tasting different fruits to find out what is our favourite.

Happy Healthy Eating Week!
