Wonderful World Book Day

It has been a week since World Book Day, and I thought it would be lovely to look back and remember what a great day it was.

The website has been updated with photographs, so head over there if you want to linger over the pictures a little longer.

But for a whistle-stop tour of the day, check out our video…..

Dunkin Donuts!

Children across school have been reading and quizzing to be entered to win a box of 6 Dunkin Donuts. Your teachers are incredibly proud of the effort you have put into reading over the past few weeks!

Due to success of this competition, we have decided to run the competition again! There will be a winner from each class and every time you read (and quiz for those children in KS2) in school or at home, you will be entered into the draw!

You have from Friday 26th February until Thursday 26th March to enter. Winners will be announced in Pride of Plover assembly on Friday 27th March, with the winners bringing their boxes of donuts home from school with them!

Good luck everyone!

World Book Day

World Book Day will be celebrated in school and at home on Friday 5th March. We would love all children to get involved in the fun. This year, the theme of World Book Day will be ‘Books That Make You LOL’. We would like to invite all children to dress up as a character from a book that makes them laugh. There will be prizes up for grabs for the most creative efforts put into a costume.
There will beĀ a ‘decorate a potato challenge’ which we inviteĀ everyone to have a go at. You can decorate a potato as a character from any book or even decorate several potatoes if you are making a scene from a book. We also will have a competitionĀ just for fun based on the TV show, ‘The Masked Singer’. Staff have hidden their identities behind books and you will be using the clues to discover who is behind the mask!
Vouchers will be emailed to all parents and carers for the World Book Day Ā£1 books. These will take the place of the normal paper vouchers. Some shops are requesting paper copies of the vouchers so please check before spending the voucher. If you find you need a paper copy but do not have access to a printer, please let your child’s teacher know and they will print you a copy.
We can’t wait to see your costumes and celebrate with you!

Plover school sharing the love 💗

I am so proud of all of the children who contributed to the Santander ā€˜thank key workersā€™ valentines display. This is the display so far and I am sure you will all agree, it looks beautiful! Keep an eye out for the video of all the contributions, which will be coming very soon! Well done everyone!

We have done it!

We have had a lovely half term term. Mostly it has just been four children and two or three staff to work with them. The Key Stage 2 children have been enjoying their topic ā€œNatural Disastersā€. We have watched fascinating video clips about volcanoes, tsunamis and floods. We have made salt dough volcanoes and erupted these using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We have also made edible volcanoes from chocolate crispy cake mixture and coloured icing. They were fun.

We have done some art work on The Great Wave and we enjoyed our colour mixing to make different shades of blue and green for the ocean. We also enjoyed colour mixing when we painted volcanoes for our wall display.

We have enjoyed a range of baking and making activities. We particularly liked making slime. It was good fun stretching it! Have a look at the photos -that was a fun afternoon!

We have continued to work hard in our speech therapy sessions and we are getting familiar with meeting Mrs Allardyce, our Deaf Instructor, on ā€˜Google Hangoutā€™ too. The snow has added to our enjoyment of playing outside and we have managed to do some art work in the snow using powder paints, as well as make snow angels and build a snowman!

Meet Your New Teacher!

As this school year comes to an end, we start to think ahead to next year. Our children have been informed who their teacher is going to be next year, had the chance to find out a little bit about them and are hopefully writing about themselves to share with their new teacher.

School restrictions during Covid-19 have made it impossible to complete the transition activities we would normally put in place to support your child with their move to their new class, however we would like to offer all children the opportunity to meet with their new children ā€˜virtuallyā€™.

We have arranged Google Meets on Thursday and Friday with all of our teachers. We have tried where possible to offer two times to avoid clashing times with classes and to provide some choice – children do not need to join both Google Meets.

Meeting joining codes will be shared via email and Google classroom.
