Chocolate Rocks and Great Geologists

This week in Year 3 and 4 we have learning all about…….rocks!

You wouldnā€™t think there was a lot to say about a rock, but ask any of our LKS2 children Ā and they will tell you that rocks have hidden depths!

We have learnt that they can be Igneous, Metamorphic or Sedimentary and what the difference is between them.

We have put our learning into practice today, using chocolate! It was a bit messy and some of us found it very difficult to fight the temptation of eating the chocolate, but we were able to show how sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are formed.

Check out the website to try the activity at home – but donā€™t forget to send in the photos!

Accelerated Reader League

This is becoming my favourite part of the Pride of Plover Assembly, announcing which class is the winner of the Accelerated Reader League!

Congratulations to 6C who have passed the most quizzes, for two weeks running.Ā  However, 6B was very close – it was tight by only 1.6%!

A shoutout goes to 3L, who have been in the top 3 places for the last three weeks.

1st place: 6C

2nd place: 6B

3rd place: 3L

We have seen an increase in the number of quizzes passed for most classes, which means lots of reading and quizzing is happening- both at home and in school!Ā  Keep up the awesome reading KS2.

Dunkin Donuts!

Children across school have been reading and quizzing to be entered to win a box of 6 Dunkin Donuts. Your teachers are incredibly proud of the effort you have put into reading over the past few weeks!

Due to success of this competition, we have decided to run the competition again! There will be a winner from each class and every time you read (and quiz for those children in KS2) in school or at home, you will be entered into the draw!

You have from Friday 26th February until Thursday 26th March to enter. Winners will be announced in Pride of Plover assembly on Friday 27th March, with the winners bringing their boxes of donuts home from school with them!

Good luck everyone!

World Book Day – Friday 5th March

World Book Day will be celebrated in school and at home on Friday 5th March. We would love all children to get involved in the fun. This year, the theme of World Book Day will be ā€˜Books That Make You LOLā€™. We would like to invite all children to dress up as a character from a book that makes them laugh. There will be prizes up for grabs for the most creative efforts put into a costume.
Please see our exciting World Book Day Google Site for all the information you will need for the big day!

World Book Day

World Book Day will be celebrated in school and at home on Friday 5th March. We would love all children to get involved in the fun. This year, the theme of World Book Day will be ‘Books That Make You LOL’. We would like to invite all children to dress up as a character from a book that makes them laugh. There will be prizes up for grabs for the most creative efforts put into a costume.
There will beĀ a ‘decorate a potato challenge’ which we inviteĀ everyone to have a go at. You can decorate a potato as a character from any book or even decorate several potatoes if you are making a scene from a book. We also will have a competitionĀ just for fun based on the TV show, ‘The Masked Singer’. Staff have hidden their identities behind books and you will be using the clues to discover who is behind the mask!
Vouchers will be emailed to all parents and carers for the World Book Day Ā£1 books. These will take the place of the normal paper vouchers. Some shops are requesting paper copies of the vouchers so please check before spending the voucher. If you find you need a paper copy but do not have access to a printer, please let your child’s teacher know and they will print you a copy.
We can’t wait to see your costumes and celebrate with you!

3L Pride of Plover

Last weeks Pride of Plover went to Dylan. Dylan was a deserving recipient of this as his confidence is growing completing his learning online and bringing a smile to everyone’s face! Well done Dylan!

This weeks Pride of Plover is awarded to Lily-Grace for always engaging in online learning and for some fantastic independent learning about the Fishlake Floods. Well done Lily- Grace!
