As part of our hook week for our new expedition ‘At the Coalface’, we have used a linked medium (charcoal) to develop our skills in art. We used techniques of blending, smudging, cross-hatching and stippling to affect areas of light, shade and texture. I was so impressed with your focus and resilience when it came to improving your abilities – well done!

Beautiful Butterflies
For our Mother’s Day cards we drew butterflies, to link to our expedition. We worked hard to ensure our butterfly was symmetrical and learnt how to use shapes to build up our picture. Mrs Williams was so proud of how beautiful they turned out and how hard we all worked.
We hope all the special mother figures in our lives, have a lovely day celebrating on Sunday!

Beautiful art.
2P have used our work on Dennis Wojtkiewicz to inspire us to produce watercolour paintings of different fruit cross sections. We worked extremely carefully and used different techniques and brushstrokes to create different effects. We did brilliantly!

preparing for our final product
Mrs Bubb modelled how to use the different resources. Then, we had a go at drawing flowers with each of them. We tried paint, oil pastels and felt tip pens. We discussed which we found easiest to use and which we thought looked best on our paper. We then chose which we would use to create our final product.
we are artists!
This week we have been looking at using emotion in our drawing. We practised drawing happy flowers, that grew tall from having lots of sun/water. Then we had a go at drawing sad, droopy looking flowers, that had not had everything they needed to help the, grow.

Beanstalk Crafts
This afternoon we noticed our broad bean and runner bean had started to sprout and the shoot was growing. Then we became scientists and used STEM to see who could build the tallest beanstalk… Check out their brilliant beanstalks! #LovePlover
Colour mixing
Today we have been exploring colour mixing. We mixed yellow and blue together to create different shades of green, we then used the green we made, to paint leaves. We discussed how we can make the green paint darker/lighter, by adding more blue/yellow. Tomorrow we are going to practise cutting out our leaves, to create a collaborative beanstalk.

Planting cress
Over the last two days we have been planting cress seeds. We drew faces onto our yogurt pots so that the cress can grow as hair. We are so excited to see how our cress will grow and change.

Yummy veggie fajitas
As part of our expedition, Ready, Steady, Grow: How can I be the healthiest version of me? 2L has been preparing food. We worked in small groups and carefully sliced peppers, mushrooms, and onions, as well as peeling and grating carrots and cheese. We then cooked the veggies and turned them into vegetable fajitas. They were yummy!
