We had a lovely time celebrating our family learning yesterday; making lanterns, painting our diva lamps, making play dough diva lamps, cutting/sticking and doing Diwali colouring.

Over the last few weeks, we have been developing our sculpting skills.
We are using different techniques to create a coil pot in the style of a Roman oil lamp. It is taking a lot of patience and resilience – especially with how quickly the clay dries out!
I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

After learning about the Great Fire of London, 2P developed their art skills so that they could use them to produce a piece of art that is inspired by the fire. We learnt about the primary colours and then mixed them to create the secondary colours. We discussed how colours can evoke feelings of warm and cold and used this to create a sun and moon image using these colours. We then used this knowledge to mix colours to create a background wash that looked like fire and we applied this in layers using sponges. We then used our cutting skills to create a cityscape silhouette to layer onto the background we had painted. We did some brilliant art!

We used a mirror to notice what colour hair and facial features we had. Then used our cutting skills to cut out and make our faces and hair. #LovePlover
Today we got to decorate our cake. We mixed the icing, added sprinkles and covered out cake, finishing with cherries on top! Then we got to eat it and the cake we made tasted delicious! #LovePlover
Having had our expert baker in this morning teach us how to bake a cake. We made our own cake this afternoon. The children used some brilliant descriptive language for the mixture: squidgy, slimy, sloppy, gooey. Then we popped it in the oven and we’re happy with the outcome! #LovePlover
This week we have been very busy collaging milk bottles to create our own Elmer elephants. We used our motor skills to independently spread the glue onto the bottle, chose which collage pieces to put where and used coloured eye stickers to stick either side of the trunk. We read the Elmer story together and discussed what patterns we could see.

F1 have been exploring chalk and paint in different way today to create patterns. We used a variety of different tools such as cotton buds, brushes, toothbrushes and sponges. We laid on our tummies whilst doing this to work our stomach muscles, and practise our gross motor skills at the same time.

F1 have been working hard to draw pictures of themselves. We worked hard on remembering to draw bodies and add detail to our drawings, using shapes to build up our pictures.
Some children also worked extra hard, trying to write their names on their pictures.

This afternoon we enjoyed making some jam sandwiches ready for our crew party! First we washed out hands, then spread the butter, next week spread the jam, finally we cut the slice of bread in half to make a sandwich. #LovePlover
