Welcome back 2B I have missed you all over the half term. I’ve loved hearing what the children have been getting up to in their holidays. We have had an exciting first few days back!
On Monday, we read our new text “Let the Children March”. I love this book, it explains an account of a very brave child who took part in the Children’s Crusade – a March organised by Martin Luther King to fight segregation laws in the 60’s in America. I was so impressed with the children’s comprehension, there are lots of tricky words in this book! Have a look at some of the examples in the photo below. To explain the idea of segregation, I told the children that if they had blue eyes they weren’t allowed to play on the trim trail. They couldn’t believe I would be so mean! Some children questioned it and others were very rightly upset and we all agreed it was unfair. Let’s see what other exciting lessons we will have based on this text!
Yesterday, we had a very exciting visitor! A real life artist called David! He drew Mr Meade and we were amazed, it looked just like him. We will be using our own drawings for a very exciting project linked to our expedition – take a look at just how proud we are of our work.

Thank you to David Smith who is a well known artist from Doncaster. David shared his story and experiences of what he has achieved to become an artist. He then answered questions which the children asked. Before spending time with each KS1 class and teaching them skills on how to draw, use different medians and shade.
Can you guess who we drew?
David and Mr Meade were blown away by the qualities of drawings 1M produced and we look forward to showcasing our art on our final produce poster and postcards!

Today, years 1 and 2’s were so lucky to have an artist who came into school. He has kindly supported everyone and shown techniques that will help with our final products, for expedition. #loveplover

Year One have started their outdoor learning sessions today and even the sunshine came out to play!
We’ve been discovering the importance of trees and what living things might make a home in our trees.
I wonder if you could go on a woodland walk and see what types of tree grow near your home?

Our scary superstars immersed themselves into the monster mash up, played zombie land tag, musical ghosts, as well as making chocolate sprinkled apples!
The children also enjoyed the delicious party food, pizza, crisps, buns and treats – yum!
Thank you parents for your continued support.

As part of one of our literacy labs and linking back to our book in English that we have been studying, George drew the bus and Rosa Parks, using chalk. Fab work George! 👍🏼😁 #LOVEPLOVER

A huge shout out to Demi and Atlas who produced some fantastic writing in their final write about Rosa Parks?
Mrs Ogle was blown away by the neatness and use of grammar in their writing! They were awarded with stickers, treats and Plover Praise Postcards!
Well done to Avianna and Mason who also received postcards for working hard and being kind 😃
