LKS2 Young Readers – Books, Biscuits and Superheroes!

Today, we were so pleased to welcome volunteers from Amazon into our school for our first Young Readers event.

The volunteers shared a quiz and a story with the children and then challenged them the create their very own Superhero.

Everyone was so engaged in the task, as paper and tape were turned into capes and masks! It was great to hear how imaginative the children were , when coming up with their superhero names and super powers.

This was followed by a visit to our magical book room, where children were able to select a book of their choice to take home. Everyone was so excited and couldn’t wait to get started reading their book – so that’s just what we did – with a biscuit of course.

A huge ‘Thank You’ goes to all the Amazon volunteers, who delivered their workshops with real pizazz, and another ‘Thank you’ goes to the National Literacy Trust’s Young Readers Programme and Vicki, who made it all happen.

This is the first of three event that we are so lucky to be able to share with Year 3 and 4 this summer. We can’t wait for the next one in a few weeks.

Innovating the Gingerbread Man

Yesterday and today the children have come up with different ‘happily ever after’ endings to innovate our Gingerbread man story. Well done to the children who have worked hard to write their ending independently using finger spaces, Fred fingers and correct letters.

Beautiful writing from Laura “The dolphin makes a magical bridge for the Gingerbread Man to cross the river!” #LovePlover

Crew Meade Visit the Library

As part of our fieldwork, we visited our local library this morning. We enjoyed a lovely sunny walk to a wonderful, peaceful place full of magical books and stories. The children got to see lots of different books, we listened to a classic and hopefully lots us of will be signing up to visit more regularly! #LovePlover

1CU’s Cheeky Phonics!

In Year 1, we have been really working hard on our phonics, especially looking for those sneaky special friends that are hiding in words. To help us find them we decided to dot and dash our words, but with a cheeky twist! We hope our lovely cleaners won’t be too upset, we did our best to tidy up after!
