International Polar Bear Day

Parents, carers and friends,

International Polar Bear Day is coming soon, February 27th! the charity ‘Polar Bears International’ created the day to coincide with the time when polar bear moms and cubs are snug in their snow dens. As part of their celebration, they are focusing on the need to protect denning families across the Arctic.

We are doing our bit in school by completing a sponsored walk of 20 miles per crew over the course of this week, to replicate how far a polar bear might travel in a day.

In the lead up to the day, here are the live events and special outreach planned by the charity for anyone to join, starting a few days beforehand and ending on the day itself. Bring your curiosity and tune in to learn about mums and cubs, the threats they face, and how you can help ensure their future.

To get more information about the day’s events, follow this link:https://polarbearsinternational.org/act-now/awareness-events/international-polar-bear-day/?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=84abf347-22c0-4a9c-b77b-1ab0f1a83edb

The school has no control of the content of this day as it is an international event, so we advise you to look into any events beforehand to ensure suitability for your children.

Kind and Collaborative

Patryk was so proud, not to mention surprised, to receive a Plover postcard today. Patryk has worked collaboratively within a small group, sharing his ideas and listening to others. He has learnt that four heads are better than one and was a real asset to his group.

Well done Patryk!

Fantastic home learning!

A huge well done to Isabella for keeping herself super busy during the half term break and returning with this brilliant home learning! Not only did she create this igloo and artwork but she also completed some maths home learning too! Super effort Isabella!

Pride of Plover

Congratulations to this week’s Pride of Plover winner, Laci-Maee! It was lovely to see how proud you were when you found out.
Your enthusiasm for learning this week has been amazing to see. You have worked so hard and been a pleasure to have in class. I’m sure you will keep it up after half term. Well done Laci-Maee, we’re all so proud of you!

We are songwriters in LKS2

Today we took a step closer to producing our final product when we had an expert visitor, Geoff Hewitt from the XP Trust, come into school to run song writing workshops with Years 3 and 4.

Geoff has had a busy week going into the other 3 XP primary schools to write the earlier verses to the song, but today it was our turn to write a beautiful and memorable ending to our song.

I was blown away by the contributions the children made and our final verses are really something to be proud of.

We enjoyed coming together as a phase at the end of the morning and sharing our verses and singing them together.

I am feeling so excited about what the final song will sound like when we record it at XP School.

3G – Let’s have a heated debate!

Today in English, we were debating whether we should have cars or not.

We looked at how to structure a debate and the type of language we should use.

We used our listening skills to build on what others were saying.

I wonder which side you would choose?

Super Scientists and Marvellous Magnets in 3G

We continued being scientists today by having a Physics investigation in magnets. We learnt words such as ‘repel’ and ‘attract’ and we now know that magnets have two Poles – the North and the South Pole – now where have we heard of those before I wonder?
