Doubling and halving

In today’s lesson we will continue practising halving.

We will start by recapping doubling with our fingers and then halving the amount.

You will need a 10 frame, 10 objects in a container and numbers to 5.

Watch the video of the lesson.

Practice using the objects you have as bales of hay. Use 8 blocks and pretend they are hay. Explain that the cows need half and the sheep need half. What does that mean? How can we work it out?

Use the 10 frame to work out what a double would be. Then work out what half will be.Ā

If double 2 is 4 then half of 4 will be 2. If you are green standard you need to be able to say the sentence and work out with other numbers.

World Book Day

World Book Day will be celebrated in school and at home on Friday 5th March. We would love all children to get involved in the fun. This year, the theme of World Book Day will be ‘Books That Make You LOL’. We would like to invite all children to dress up as a character from a book that makes them laugh. There will be prizes up for grabs for the most creative efforts put into a costume.
There will beĀ a ‘decorate a potato challenge’ which we inviteĀ everyone to have a go at. You can decorate a potato as a character from any book or even decorate several potatoes if you are making a scene from a book. We also will have a competitionĀ just for fun based on the TV show, ‘The Masked Singer’. Staff have hidden their identities behind books and you will be using the clues to discover who is behind the mask!
Vouchers will be emailed to all parents and carers for the World Book Day Ā£1 books. These will take the place of the normal paper vouchers. Some shops are requesting paper copies of the vouchers so please check before spending the voucher. If you find you need a paper copy but do not have access to a printer, please let your child’s teacher know and they will print you a copy.
We can’t wait to see your costumes and celebrate with you!

Working together

Look at this amazing learning! Bobby and Samuel worked together to make the house for the characters from Weā€™re going in a bear hunt.
I was very impressed with how they decided where to put the door and windows, sharing ideas as they built.

Well done boys.
