Cake Making in F2M

Having had our expert baker in this morning teach us how to bake a cake. We made our own cake this afternoon. The children used some brilliant descriptive language for the mixture: squidgy, slimy, sloppy, gooey. Then we popped it in the oven and we’re happy with the outcome! #LovePlover

Elmer

This week we have been very busy collaging milk bottles to create our own Elmer elephants. We used our motor skills to independently spread the glue onto the bottle, chose which collage pieces to put where and used coloured eye stickers to stick either side of the trunk. We read the Elmer story together and discussed what patterns we could see.

Mark Making

F1 have been exploring chalk and paint in different way today to create patterns. We used a variety of different tools such as cotton buds, brushes, toothbrushes and sponges. We laid on our tummies whilst doing this to work our stomach muscles, and practise our gross motor skills at the same time.

We Are Artists

F1 have been working hard to draw pictures of themselves. We worked hard on remembering to draw bodies and add detail to our drawings, using shapes to build up our pictures.
Some children also worked extra hard, trying to write their names on their pictures.

Making Jam Sandwiches

This afternoon we enjoyed making some jam sandwiches ready for our crew party! First we washed out hands, then spread the butter, next week spread the jam, finally we cut the slice of bread in half to make a sandwich. #LovePlover

Party Paper Chains

Gorgeous collages

Year 5 have been getting creative in art, inspired by the brilliant artist Clare Youngs. Clare makes colourful animal collages using lots of different shapes, patterns and textures – and we decided to have a go ourselves!

Our theme was rainforest animals. We created creatures like butterflies, jaguars, toucans, birds and monkeys. First, we drafted our ideas and sketched out how our animals might look. Then came the really exciting part – working with a partner to create a final collage together. It was great fun to share ideas, combine our designs and see how two brains could come together to make one amazing piece of artwork.

The finished collages are bright, bold and full of rainforest life. They look incredible on display and really show off our teamwork as well as our creativity.

We’re so proud of what we’ve made – Clare Youngs would be too!

Colour Mixing

In nursery we have been exploring colours and colour mixing. We painted our hands two different colours, then made predications on what colour it would turn when we rubbed them together.

Primary Engineer!

A few weeks ago, children in Year 5 engaged with Primary Engineer and Siemens to work on a project to build a working locomotive, using new tools and skills to develop and create a ‘train’ locomotive that progressed their knowledge of Design, Technology and Science.

The children can all be very proud to say they worked in small teams to build working locomotives that were able to travel in straight lines (as on a track) and carry a small load. Myself and the other teachers were extremely impressed with how brilliantly everyone engaged with the work and took care to ensure their products fitted the brief.

Then – today – three children were selected to attend the celebration event where they were interviewed about the development of the design, their involvement in improving the quality of the working parts, and tested its usefulness in carrying a load on a straight line – just like a real train! They were a credit to the school and presented us beautifully with their ‘Flying Scotsman’ inspired design, making links to our coal mining expedition and Doncaster.
