When we arrived at school today, after the weekend, we noticed our plants had began shooting! We noticed that the roots of our sunflower seeds, were growing down through the bottom of the pot and the stem was growing up. We cannot wait to watch the stem grow even bigger and eventually flower. Our cress has also started growing in our egg shells, creating hair for our egg heads.
Today we have learnt about the Easter story, and why we celebrate Easter with chocolate eggs. We learnt some key words such as; Jesus, tomb, cross, god and last supper.
As part of our final product, our children did lots of fundraising to raise money for reading for pleasure books. At our celebration of learning, our children presented books boxes to Doncaster Childrenās Ward, CAST theatre, Kiddiewinks, Sandringham Road Doctors Practice and Intake Wellbeing Centre. The children also received a book each and a gingerbread man, they baked and decorated themselves. We sang some songs for our parents/visitors and shared our learning journey.
UKS2 had their celebration of learning yesterday and we couldnāt be prouder! They were so excited to share their learning over the past term during this expedition where they engaged as artists, historians and scientists! The children shared the interactive map they have been working on which will be displayed in our local community in the coming weeks. Thank you as always to our parents and carers for going our celebration. We really appreciate it!
2P have been learning about the name and location of the different continents. We can now name the different oceans and continents! The song is still going around our heads!
As part of their Expedition āOnce Upon a Timeā, students in EYFS at Plover have raised money to provide boxes of books to local community organisations, including Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital Trust. They posted this update on their social media this week from their Childrenās Ward, thanking students for their generous donation.
Genius of Steam and Speed
Across the Trust we have always researched and celebratedĀ Doncaster’s railway story through expeditions. Lots of our students’ work is already out there in the community – including railway stationsĀ and parks. Our latest book, Rail City, is also on sale in Waterstones and the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.
On the 23rd April a remarkable new exhibition – Gresley: Genius of Steam and Speed – will open at DGLaM, featuring artifacts, letters and stories about the man who engineered the Flying Scotsman and the Mallard in Doncaster.
Students from the Trust will be co-creating an audio guide which will be accessibleĀ through an app for the exhibition. We will also be helping to create rail related resources for the summer holiday programme of children’s events at DGLaM.
