1C’s Character Traits

As well as Integrity last week, we also spent days looking at Respect, Courage and Compassion.

Respect: We talked about class rules and we devised a set that we all thought would help our classroom run harmoniously. We sorted some statements into “Resepectful Behaviour” or “Not Respectful Behaviour”.

Compassion: We created a “Compassion Bingo” card filled with what we thought were the most important acts of kindness. We also looked at the art work of Keith Haring and created some inspired pieces.

Courage: Finally, Mrs. Southgate unleashed our inner cowgirls/cowboys and taught us some line dancing. It was a new skill for all of us but we had so much fun. We were courageous when we performed it to all of the classes in KS1 out on the playground. Yeehaw!

What a wonderful day we had on Monday to launch our new expedition, “Not All Heroes Wear Capes: How can I be a hero in my community?”. We started the day by discussing our hero choices and why we had chosen our hero. We talked about what our dream powers would be and what we would do with them. We also talked about the real-life heroes we meet out in the world and that not all heroes wear capes and masks.

After lunch it was time for our Superhero Training Camp, we had to jump over hurdles, crawl under nets, creep around cones and not fall into the boiling hot larva.

To finish our day, we painted some tudor houses that we will use when we begin our GFOL learning.

Our first day together in F2BP

What a beautiful day we have had together. We learned our first letter, m’. In maths, we learned that we can subitise. This means we can say what we can see and not need to count groups of objects to three. We also had our first PE lesson. We learned the rules in PE to keep us safe and how to move around the space without banging into each other. WHAT A DAY! We all agree- your children are amazing and we are so happy to have such a wonderful class of children.

Integrity Story Trail

On our very first day of Year 1, we have been learning all about Integrity (one of our new character traits). We started by going on a Story Trail. We followed clues to take us to find the story. We read aloud tales like “The Boy who Cried Wolf”, “Jack and The Beanstalk”, “Goldilocks” and “Pinocchio”. We talked about whether the characters were honest and what happened if they told the truth.

Hello Future Year 1 Superstars! 

I just wanted to send you a big smile and a warm wave as you head off for your summer holidays! You have worked so hard in Reception, and now it’s time to rest, play, and enjoy all the sunshine, ice cream, and fun adventures summer brings.

I’m so excited to be your teacher in Year 1 and can’t wait to learn, laugh, and explore with you in August! We’re going to have a brilliant time together.

Have lots of fun, stay safe, and don’t forget to smile every day. I’ll be counting down the days until we’re in our new classroom together!

Deaf Awareness

As part of our Day 2 for Transition, we explored BSL and Deaf Awareness. To inspire us, we watched Mr. Chandler’s BBC retelling of the story “The Enormous Turnip”. This story was accompanied by an orchestra so in 1C we created our own! The children learned he song and tried out different types of instruments.

The children then split into mini-crews to sequence pictures from the story. They worked very well as a team!

We then were visited by Mrs. Anderson from the Deaf School and she talked us through her experience of being Deaf. She also gave us some very helpful pointers on how to successfully communicate with hearing impaired people and we learned some BSL.

When I grow up….

As part of transition day, our guiding question for the day was “What will you be when you grow up?” In the morning we were visited by some of my friends who all had different kinds of jobs. We met Coach Owen, who is a business owner and PE coach. We met Nurse Alice who is a critical care nurse at DRI. We had some information videos from Chloe who is a food product developer. Last but most certainly not least, we met Rev. Adam and Rev. Tony who talked us through their job at the Church.

We then had a big conversation about what jobs we would like to do when we grow up and all I can say, we will not be without ICE CREAM with the amount of vans that will be driving around. An interesting mix of teachers, a boxer, a fossil hunter and so many interesting choices!
