We would like to say a very big thank you to the Freemasons of Yorkshire West Riding through West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd for their very generous donation of £1000 which helped to provide the teddy bears and care packages for the expedition. They were delighted to hear of the work the children were doing.
Thank you for a fantastic two and a half years at Plover. I have had the pleasure of working with lots of lovely, talented children and will miss you all. I have loved every minute here!! Keep on being amazing, and don’t forget me when you’re famous!
We are delighted to inform you about an online learning platform called NumBots that weāre using to support your childās understanding of number bonds and to help their addition and subtraction skills. These are the essential building blocks for higher-level maths concepts, so we are excited by the impact that NumBots will have on your childās learning.
We will also be celebrating children’s achievements each week in our community crew, where we will be presenting the children’s certificates.
Logging In
The children have been shown how to log in and have brought home a username label containing their unique login details. NumBots can be played on a browser (play.numbots.com) or via the app which is free to download on Amazon, Android and Apple devices. They may need help entering the details, but once theyāre in they will be able to play the game on their own.
Please ask your childās teacher if they are struggling to login.
Important: Please donāt allow siblings, friends or family to answer for them, as the programme progresses at the pace of each child. Do feel free to support your child if theyāre stuck and give them encouragement to keep trying even if it takes a number of times to complete a level.
Children should all have logged in at school and be aware of how to log in.
Little and often
In order to get the best out of NumBots, we recommend that children play regularly for short bursts at a time, aiming for 3 minutes, five times a week.
Game Types
Story Mode ā the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, representations and question styles.
Challenge Mode ā the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.
Please let your childās teacher know if you have any questions or comments.Ā
We had a thank you card today from Tiny Hands for the teddy bears and care packages we sent them. They were very touched with the kindness and thought. Well done EYFS.
We invite children in Year and 4 to come to school dressed as a robot on Monday 6th January to launch our spring expedition.
Please don’t go to any expense – homemade is great.
As part of the day, we will be watching the film Robots which is PG rated. Please inform your child’s class teacher if you do not consent to your child watching this film.
We will be needing cardboard boxes and tin cans to help with our activities in the first week and would be grateful if you could send them into school at the start of the week.
On Friday 10th January, we will be having our ‘Create-a-Robot’ Family Learning event and would love it if you could join us in school at 2pm.
6B had a great time grappling with circuits this afternoon. Each group successfully created a working circuit, lighting their bulbs and even powered their propellors. They linked this learning to their current expedition by noticing how solar power is used in space exploration. Great work 6B!
