Fun-packed week in LKS2

I can’t believe that there have only been 4 days at school this wee, we seem to have done so much!

In English, we have developed our speaking and listening skills by creating role plays about a disastrous visit to a dentist. We followed this up by starting our extended piece of creative writing – a diary entry about a disastrous visit to a dentist! We are being inspired by the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Demon dentist.

In Expedition, we had stomach churning investigations into how our digestive system works. We researched the functions of the parts of the digestive system and then things got a little bit messy when we created our own digestive system with bananas, orange juice, biscuits and a pair of tights!


A great week has been topped-off with today’s NSPCC number day. We have shared the book ‘How many Jellybeans’ which showed us exactly what 1 million jellybeans looks like. That inspired us to investigate different aspects of maths using jelly beans! We have weighed, timed, created 3D shapes, graphed, estimated and much more – and then we got to eat Jellybeans – win win!

I am so proud of working with the children and adults in LKS2, their hard work and enthusiasm makes me look forward to coming to work every day!

Pyjamarama Day

On Friday 14th May, we will be celebrating Pyjamarama Day in school. Children are invited to come to school in their pyjamas for a suggested donation of £1. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the importance of a bedtime story for all children. Donations will go to the National Book Trust, who use the money to help all children have a story in their homes to read. Children will be participating in some fun activities in school on this day, all linked to reading for pleasure.

Horror trip to the dentist!

Year 3 have had great fun imagining a horror trip to the dentist. They will use this next week to inspire their writing! Take a look at the ‘freeze frame’ moments from their acting lesson. #LovePlover

Wonderful Week!

What a great week we have had in LKS2 this week!

We began the week by setting up our scientific experiment, to investigate the impact of different substances on our teeth. We did this by covering eggs in different liquids – coke; milk; water; and orange juice. We looked at the results yesterday and looking at the reactions of the egg shells, it is safe to say that coke and orange juice are not good for your teeth! We have to make sure we brush our teeth well after drinking them!

We continued our learning about how to make Doncaster more healthy, with an expert visitor – Mr Price a paramedic. The children had lots of great questions and were fascinated by what Mr Price had to say.

We are looking forward to what more we will learn next week!

Don’t dodge the dentist!

Miss Goodwin has been teaching us about the power of advertising today! The children loved her catchy slogan, ‘Don’t dodge the dentist!’ They have then gone on to create their own posters encouraging other children to visit the dentist. They worked so hard! Year 3 had a wonderful visit from Mr Price (and Mrs Price) today, who told us all about life as a paramedic. The children loved hearing all about Mr Price’s job, how he saves people’s lives and how he thinks we can help make Doncaster more healthy. Mr Price gave us some great tips on how to take care of our friends if we think they might be hurt. He also answered many of our questions! Thank you to Mrs Price for organising this for us, what a fun afternoon! #LovePlover

LKS2 investigate ‘How clean are your teeth?’

We have had a great week in LKS2 this week learning all about our teeth.

In English we have been comparing diary entries, looking at an extract from ‘A poo, a gnu and you’ and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’. When then wrote our own diary entries around visiting the dentist.

In Expedition, we have learnt the names and functions of the different teeth, as well as what a tooth is made from – but best of all, we investigated how clean our teeth are using disclosing tablets – that created a few giggles!

Hopefully parents, you won’t have a battle getting the children to clean their teeth this weekend!
