Reflecting on learning

Myla made her castle and was very proud of what she produced.

This is what she said about her model.

“These are the turrets and these are the fire. I thought orange would be good as it would be good as it looks like fire. For the door I thought if I put tape onto it it might go up and down so that it closes. I think it needs more glue on to stop the turrets moving.”

Following crew this afternoon, Marnie realised that she could also get better at making models. This is what she said.

“I tried to use the glue on the side but it kept falling off. If I had put the roll on the flat piece it would have stuck better and if I used tape it would stop it moving. If I cut it then it would have been even better.”

Well done girls for reflecting on your learning.

Building castles

We have been building castles today in lots of areas of provision including cutting and sticking, sand and water.

We have learnt lots of new words about castles. We learnt about turrets and draw bridges.

We were very proud of our models.

Creating a dragon

What would a dragon look like? What would a dragon feel like? What colours and textures would we need to use? These were all questions that the children thought about today. They used different materials to create a dragon talking about the different textures and which ones they thought would be best for the dragon scales.

I think that there will be some exciting news tomorrow. The egg has started cracking. I wonder what is inside.

Amazing reading

I have seen some fantastic reading today. Some children have read words for the first time and some have moved up reading shelves.

Well done to Myla and Ravija for learning to read all phase 3 graphemes in words and moving onto yellow shelf. Avianna has moved up two reading shelves within the red band. Yesterday Craig moved onto blue reading shelf.

Matthew and Ralph showed an amazing attitude to learning in phonics making words with magnets and trying hard to read them. Keep it up boys.

Our new water wall

During the holidays Mrs Melady made a water wall for the children to use and investigate with. The children had lots of fun today exploring the different places the water went.

A shout out goes to Samuel, Oscar, Bobby and Mason who worked together to make the water go through the bottles and into the bucket without losing any! It took lots of determination and trial and error. They listened to each others ideas too. Well done boys.

Thank you to Mrs Melady too – we had lots of fun!

What is it?

The children found some eggs today. Some were big and some were small. Some were cracked and some were whole. What was inside them? Where were they from? Lots of questions and lots of discussions.

Tomorrow we will explore what happens when we try to hatch an egg!
