We have had a number of great Pride of Plover pupils over the last few weeks. Congratulations to them all, they have really lived the āPlover Pledgeā.
XPGPHC – How can we continue to make progress in public health?
Year 9 students at XPG have embarked on their “You Give Me Fever” Expedition, which has culminated in their inaugural Public Health conference, addressing the challenges of public health amidst the cost-of-living crisis. Through three case studies examining historical and current health influences, they explored the impact of living conditions, government structures, and scientific advancements on people’s well-being.
This comprehensive analysis has also resulted in a formal report that presented key health risks for Gateshead’s residents, particularly in the context of the cost-of-living crisis. The report will be shared with the Health and Social Care Committee in Parliament.

Is Science enough to save lives?
As part of their Expedition ‘You Give Me Fever’, C28 celebrated their learning this week – complete with a gallery of their incredible artwork. They shared scientific writing about diseases and their impact on society, dating back to the middle ages.
They sold their prints to raise money for their DofE Expedition – and the content will also be made into a book later in the year!
SATs donāt measure sport and SATs donāt measure art,
SATs donāt measure music or the kindness in your heart.
SATs donāt see your beauty, SATs donāt know your worth,
SATs donāt see the reasons you were put upon this earth.
SATs donāt see your magic or how you make others smile.
SATs donāt time how quickly you can run a mile.
SATs donāt hear your laughter or see youāve come this far,
SATs are just a tiny glimpse of who you truly are.
So sitting at your table, with a pencil and your test.
Remember SATs arenāt who you are,
remember youāre the best!
We are all so proud of each and everyone of you Year 6. Your commitment to learning this year has been amazing. You are going to smash your SATs next week! Enjoy your weekend and have lots of fun- you deserve it!
Today we investigated how to make things change. We looked at ice and how rock salt makes it colder. We learnt about how shaking cream makes it go harder. We also noticed that the ice melts in fingers.
All this happened whilst we made and tasted ice-cream!
Today, we made ice cream and looked at how we could change liquid (cream) to solid ice cream by making it really cold. A double bonus was that it tasted delicious too!
This afternoon, Year 6 were joined by a number of traitors. The traitors were challenged to purposely sabotage the reading session. The faithfuls had to use their knowledge to be confident about their decisions and challenge their team to make sure they scored the most points whilst the traitors deliberately tried to sway them so they scored the least!
They had so much fun, especially when the traitors were revealed! We had some very good traitors and lots of fun during revision!
4H have been practising how to find words in a dictionary. It has certainly been interesting and the children have really had to grapple with the process of how to do this. As we made great strides of improvement yesterday, I began racing the children to see who could find the stated word the quickest. Methmi and Poppy were not happy that they were only a couple of seconds slower than I was! Maybe next week they will beat meā¦
