English Tuesday 23rd June

Good morning Key Stage One.

Today we are going to be learning about the past and the present tense.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zrqqtfr/articles/z3dbg82

Use the clip above to learn about the past, present and future tense.

In Key Stage One, we only need to learn about past and present tense, so don’t be too worried about the future tense. Perhaps you can try the quiz too?

Past tense – these sentences tell us something that has already happened.

Miss Topliss went to the shops.

Miss Lotysz had a lovely weekend.

Miss Lister walked her dog.

Present tense – these sentences tell us something that is happening now.

Miss Topliss is going to the shops.

Miss Lotysz is having a lovely weekend.

Miss Lister is walking her dog.

Have a go at writing these past tense sentences in the present tense

  1. Miss Topliss was painting a picture.

Miss Topliss ____________ a picture.

  1. Miss Lotysz was opening a present.

Miss Lotysz _____________ her present.

  1. Miss Lister was using the phone.

Miss Lister ______________ the phone.

Have a go at writing these present tense sentences in the past tense

  1. Miss Topliss is jumping on her trampoline.

Miss Topliss _________________ on her trampoline.

  1. Miss Lotysz is making a card.

Miss Lotysz __________________ a card.

  1. Miss Lister is eating an apple.

Miss Lister __________________ an apple.

Challenge!

Can you write some of your own sentences using the past and present tense? Perhaps you could write some sentences using our story, The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
