Teamwork makes the dream work!

3LS have been getting smart and working hard together. We’ve been working collaboratively to solve Viking Maths problems and research Viking beliefs and mythology. I’ve been really impressed with how the children have got along and helped eachother.

Are you ready for a Viking Quest?

Year 3 and 4 proved they were ready for the challenge of being a Viking Warrior this morning, demonstrating that they have both brains and brawn in our Viking Quest.

We were given the challenge to strengthen a Viking Hoard, but only if we could complete the challenges first.

We had four quests to complete that would give us a number combination to open the lock on the Viking Treasure Chest.

The Riddle of the Runes – could we decipher the words written in Viking Runes,

Timeline Trouble – could we find the missing event on the timeline

Warrior Wordfinders, had us searching for the missing Viking word.

And finally we were Amazing Archaeologists looking for Viking artefacts in our own archaeological dig.

After we successfully showed how we could use our brains, we then show how physical we were and how we could follow instructions by playing Capture the Flag, Viking Ships and Raising the Sail.

We had a fun afternoon watching ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ for a different peek into Viking life.

Have a look at at how we launched the day!

What a great day!

I just wanted to say a big well done to all the children in Year 3 and 4, for their great effort and determination today.

Children were challenged to try things they hadn’t done before and what impressed me the most was how they kept trying and didn’t give up, even after defeats!

Behaviour was great and and judging by the children’s comments, a good time was had by all.

I am in the process of going through photos, and so there will be another blog with images of the day.

Finally, thank you to the parents, carers, grandparents, aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters and everyone else that came to support the children today, your cheers were so encouraging for them, I hope you enjoyed your morning.

What a Great Start!

3LS have made a fantastic start to the school year. It was lovely to see everyone arrive smart and smiling on Tuesday. You’ve all been stars, getting to know eachother and have worked so hard. Tomorrow will be one of Mrs Lewis’s days but I look forward to hearing about the rest of your week so keep up the good work!

Welcome LKS2! What’s happening this week?

What a great first day back! So many smiling faces – on both children and staff!

It was great to get the whole phase together for an assembly this afternoon – the first time I have been with my full phase for a very, very long time – and I was very impressed by the way children listened and shared their ideas.

We are having a ‘Getting to know you’ week this week, and tomorrow, children will spend the day in their crews, starting to create their new crew identity and getting to know their crew leader a little bit better.

Each year group has three crews and three crew leaders and we are lucky to have Mrs Danielska join the Year 3 crew and Mrs Carter join the Year4 crew as crew leaders. Children will start and end their day in their crews and crew leaders will be available at the end of the day to dismiss children from the Year 3 or Year 4 door, where the usually leave from.

On Thursday, we are holding our Sports day. Parents are welcome, please see Mr Meade’s blog post for more information.

On Friday it is our dress as a Viking day. We are launching our expedition “Coming to Doncaster – why then, why now?” with some physical and mental challenges and we will enjoy watching How to Train Your Dragon in the afternoon. Please don’t spend lots of money on dressing up outfits – there are lots of great ways to create a costume without lots of expense.

Just a reminder that we have our visit to Murton Park, York, on 13th and 15th September. please return you permission slips as soon as possible. The trip can be paid for through parent pay.

Finally, thank you for your patience at the end of the day when you are collecting your children. I know it is a little slow while we get to learn names and faces, but we need to make sure that the children are safe. I promise will get quicker.

If you have any questions, please speak to your class teacher or myself. Or if you prefer you can email me on [email protected].

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Graves

SPORTS DAY

Hi Plover Parents,

It has been fantastic to see so many children and staff back in school today for our first day back! 🙂

This Thursday 2nd September is KS1 and KS2 Sports day – a celebration for all the community to enjoy, heading into (hopefully) a smoother year!

Parents are INVITED and can access the school field from 9.15am. Chairs/benches will be out on the concrete for parents to sit and watch the track events.

There will be an ice-cream van on the playground for children to purchase an ice cream (with parents supervision) after their running races.

The sports day will look and run slightly different from previous sports days, however we just want it to be a positive and fun start to the year for all children to take part in! It will consist of track races, field events and fun activities.

9.30am-10.30am:

  • KS1 fun events
  • LKS2 track/running events
  • UKS2 field events

10.30am-11.30am:

  • UKS2 track/running evenKS1 field events

We ask for children to come in their PE kits and to wear an item of clothing which represents their CREW colour ed, yellow, blue). This may be difficult as your child may have changed crews and may not know their colour, so don’t worry their full PE kit is absolutely fine.

Any questions, please ask your class teacher or email Mr Meade on [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you all support your superstars!

A few things to look forward to…

We’re all really excited about our first expedition in the Autumn term and are already busy planning lots of exciting learning for you.

Here’s your first clue: On the 13th of September (yr4) and 15th September (yr3), we will be travelling back in time and visiting this ancient village in York:

Look out for a letter before the holidays with more information and payment details. We will also be asking for a couple of volunteers to join us.

If you haven’t guessed how we will be launching our expedition, this next clue will give it away… At the end of the first week, we will be having a Viking dress-up day. There’s no need to spend a fortune. We will be sending out some ideas for DIY costumes before the holidays.

Enjoy your holidays and we’ll see you all soon!
