Happy Half Term Holidays from KS1

Hi Everyone,

The Crew in KS1 wanted to say …

…to all our fabulous children and parents.

It has been a ‘strange’ half term with some of our children working online and some in school.ย  But you have adapted and worked so well.ย  You have made us all super proud.

Over the last week we have been scientists exploring materials, this has included sorting materials, looking at the properties of materials – including burning them!ย  You have seen this work on the class blogs.

Many of you have enjoyed baking this week – I hope you really looked at how materials change when mixed and cooked!

In maths you were creative with the resources you used to help you.

Now I hope you all have a really well earned rest over the half term.ย  Let’s hope that next half term at some stage it is safe enough for us all to be back in the classroom together.

Keep safe everyone

KS1 Crew

Pride of Plover for 1/2C

Drum Roll Please…

My Pride of Plover this week is Isabelle, she has been on line every day completing all work to a really high standard.

Isabelle has completed lots of additional activities at home and just embraces her learning.

You absolute superstar.

Plover school sharing the love 💗

I am so proud of all of the children who contributed to the Santander โ€˜thank key workersโ€™ valentines display. This is the display so far and I am sure you will all agree, it looks beautiful! Keep an eye out for the video of all the contributions, which will be coming very soon! Well done everyone!

Fire! Fire!

The good news is that I didn’t hear the Fire engines rushing down the streets near school yesterday as you all took to your expedition learning! I received lots of pictures of your scientific investigation into the properties of materials and their suitability for different uses. A huge shout out to all of the children that took part but also a shout out to your adults for supervising things so brilliantly.

Luca, Darwin, Shayen and Scarlett all showed the different materials that they experimented with and the observations that they made were brilliant. Great use of the scientific vocabulary! Shayen took things even further and used our brief introduction to heat changing the state of an object by putting snow onto his fire to extinguish it. Superb learning! You have all earned the Plover Praise Postcard for your efforts.

We Have Done It!

It is the final day of this bizarre and different half term… but you superstars and grown ups have all shown great resilience, perseverance and hard work – you should be extremely proud!

Shout out to Seb for making some yummy looking cakes and having fun in the snow for his Plover Praise postcard yesterday.

It is also brilliant to see our children working scientifically in their expedition lessons, continuing to read and earn raffle tickets, and show that can do attitude to get smart in their learning!

A reminder today at 1.15pm we will join Mrs Cowards Live hangout for our KS1 Pride of Plover, Plover Praise party games and appreciations!

It will be a lovely way to end this challenging half term and to see everyone in KS1 celebrate all their hard work and efforts, before we can have a little half-term break ๐Ÿ™‚

Fire! Fire!

As part of our Expedition we have been learning about the properties of materials.

Yesterday we investigated what happened to a range of materials when they were put next to a flame.

The children used fabulous words to describe what they saw including charring, melting, burning, flammable and inflammable.

It was fabulous to see Ellis and Paul’s photographs and work.

They have obviously been hard at work too!

What problem?

Well done to all of Year 2 for their brilliant Maths work yesterday. They used what they had learnt about grouping and sharing division and used this to solve word problems with bar models. Brilliant work everyone! A special shout out to Talliah, Tim, Morris, Yad, Julita and Jasmine who really showed great understanding when demonstrating how they knew their answers. You all win today’s Praise Postcard.

I would also like to give Shayen another shout out for upcycling an old plastic bottle to turn it into an awesome new planter. He used his knowledge of the properties of different materials to choose the best equipment tp use. Great learning Shayen!

Shout Out to Ellis

Look at Ellis’ London Eye.

I am so impressed to see that he is using power tools – obviously under adult supervision.ย  Great work Ellis.ย  You can see how hard he is concentrating – what a super final product.

Both in school and at home we have enjoyed learning more about products of materials.ย  The children loved having a scavenger hunt and then sorting materials not as much fun putting things away at the end though ๐Ÿ™‚

Great to see you all enjoying your learning ๐Ÿ™‚

Great Maths

We have been working hard to understand division as sharing and grouping during our Maths sessions and this is some of the great work that I have been sent. A massive well done to Tommy and Shayen for so clearly demonstrating their understanding. Tommy, you get today’s virtual Plover Praise Postcard. Great work!

I would also like to give a massive shout out to Johnny who has made this amazing London Eye model. It has been constructed to allow for it to rotate so that it has moving parts. Superb engineering Johnny!

Have a great day.

In Expedition, Case Study 2 we are learning about the properties of materials. 10 crew coins to Lena and Seb who have used their material knowledge to build two iconic London landmarks! Can you guess the landmarks?

Shout out to Roscoe and Lyra, as well as all the other superstars working hard at home today. It is important that we work hard and get smart, and have fun and stay safe! ๐Ÿ™‚
