The diversity of life

As part of World Book Day we looked at the book The diversity of life. We loved the butterflies and how they looked similar and different at the same time. We printed butterflies and we are going to make them into a display to celebrate the book.

We are scientists

So what happens when the gingerbread man gets to the river but the fox has disappeared? What can he do? Where should he go?

The children decided that he needed to swim across the water so we set up an investigation to find out what would happen.

Some children thought that he would float and others sink. Some said he would be soggy and others said he would melt. We learnt what melting meant and used the word dissolved.

We placed our gingerbread men in warm water like the river and at first he floated but then disaster, the gingerbread men started to disappear. They went soggy, started sinking and finally dissolved into the warm water.

We decided that he needed to find a boat and not swim in the water.

We will be making bridges for him and a boat to see which way is best for the gingerbread man to travel across the river.

Road safety

As part of crew today we thought about being safe on the roads. We practiced crossing the road and used think, stop, look and listen.

Thank you to the road safety team for giving the children things to remind them to keep safe.

Making a house

Last week we listened to the story of the paralysed man and looked at the different types of houses in the story. The main house had a flat roof and stairs on the outside.

We have made props to tell the story which we shared with each other. Can you see the walking man, the flat roof, the pointy roof, the stairs, and the mat?

I praise that the children used their imagination to tell the story.

Working hard

Our postcards went to Harper and Kobin today. Harper persevered in phonics to write a sentence and was very proud of what she wrote. Kobin spoke confidently on the carpet and worked hard to blend the sounds in words. You are both superstars.

This a photo of our attendance winners. Keep coming to school each day and climbing the attendance mountain.
