Are all bears the same?

Today we are going to compare bears and find out what is the same and what is different. We can sort the bears in different ways. We have attached some pictures of bears, body parts and where they live.
Let’s think about where the bears live. Can you sort the bears? Which bears live in a forest/ where it is cold/ on a mountain?
Thinking about what we have learnt can you sort the bears in other ways?
You could place the pictures in a line as you sort or in groups. Maybe draw a table to add your findings.
I wonder if all the bears live in the same place. Do they all eat the same thing? Do they all do the same things?

Sorting 2D shapes

Sorting 2D shapes Video of lesson

In this lesson, we will introduce the names and properties of some simple 2D shapes. We will use those properties to sort the shapes. During your daily exercise go on a 2D shape walk and spot shapes in the environment. Which 2D shapes can you spot inside your home?

For today’s learning you will need a ruler, a coin, a plastic lid, a cracker or a piece of bread and a tissue or piece of kitchen roll.

Recap the names of 2D shapes – circle, square, triangle, rectangle – we also call this is an oblong. Corners are also known as vertices.

Then using your objects sort them into different sets eg straight sides and doesn’t have straight sides.

If you are green standard, can you sort the shapes in different ways? Can you think of your own criteria? Can you give reasons for why you have sorted the shapes as you have?

Finish your learning by playing I’m thinking of a shape.

I’m thinking of a 2D shape. It has four straight sides. What is my shape?

Comparing bears

Today we are going to look at photos of real bears. We will talk about what they look like and compare them. We are going to look at fact cards too.
This activity is a speaking activity so we don’t expect written work from it. We would like to know how you described the bears and how you compared them.
