What would be the best material to build a wall with?

We have been examining different materials today. We decided that bricks were good for building walls because they are heavy, strong, have flat faces and are difficult to knock over. The children worked in groups talking about other materials and this is what we found out.

We are going to use our findings to create a building as tall as we can.

Wow

Paisley brought her home learning into school today and it is amazing. She used the three little pigs she had created to make the setting for the story. Well done Paisley.

Amazing home learning

Our postcard winners today were Zuzanna and Arez for their fantastic home learning. Zuzanna painted numbers following on from maths yesterday and Arez made a house to link to our expedition. They shared their creations with the other children who clapped them.

I am looking forward to seeing more home learning.

Patterns in numbers

We have been exploring patterns in numbers today. Some children have been making number lines and matching amounts seeing what happens to the amounts. Could they see any patterns in what they were doing? These were some of the answers.

When the number gets bigger the line gets longer.

More objects is for the more numbers. Less objects is for the fewer numbers.

When you put 1 more on it gets longer and it keeps doing it.

Some of the children explored patterns in numbers when we count in 2s as well.

Well done everyone

What are things made out of?

As part of our expedition we have been learning about different materials that we find in our houses. We have been exploring the outdoor area to see what things are made out of too.

We have learnt the words glass, wood, plastic, metal and fabric. We have also sorted objects by what they are made out of.

Dreams and goals

In crew today we thought about facing challenges and how we feel. We thought about how that affected us when we did the challenge.

Our challenge was to work together to build with marshmallows and cocktail sticks. We had lots of fun but found it tricky. Some children said they found it frustrating and others said they felt happy when they could succeed.

Well done to Sienna for a wonderful first day at school. She tried hard in maths and phonics, she made lots of friends and was very polite.

Thank you to the other children for looking after Sienna and helping her today. I was very proud of you too.
