World Book Day

Wow! What a great day. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and we had some fantastic potato characters.

We looked at The Day the Crayon’s Quit and wrote a descriptive poem about colours.

Well done everyone for all your hard work on Read Theory, keep it up!

Half Term Activities

Over half term don’t forget to log on to Times Table Rockstars and Read Theory (www.readtheory.org). The children have their usernames and passwords. They are finding this lots of fun so please encourage them to log on as much as possible!

Busy Week for Year 3 and 4

We have had a busy week this week in Year 3 and 4. On Tuesday afternoon, we held our first Parent’s Information / Family Learning Event. It was well attended and we had the opportunity to share how to support children with times tables and reading at home. Parents then got the chance to try a few activities for themselves with their children.

We have been busily working on completing our High Energy Expedition work all week, which is now with the Graphic Designer, Rick. We look forward to seeing what our amazing Chocolate Information Boards are going to look like.

Finally, we had NSPCC Number Day on Friday, when we came to school dressed in a number and had a day of maths investigations and learnt some important messages about staying safe.

Times Tables

The children have had a fantastic day today finding out about the NSPCC and working on their times tables. We’ve been busy on Rockstars and enjoyed doing a times tables speed test. I didn’t realise the children were so competitive! We enjoyed PE this afternoon where we

were busy making multiplication arrays.

Tonight the children will be coming home with a multiplication square to help them learn their times tables. Remember, doing a few each night will make a huge difference!

Enjoy the weekend!

Family Learning Event

Just a quick reminder that it is the Y3 and Y4’s Family Learning Event on Tuesday 4th February. We will begin at 1.45. You’ll get the opportunity to find out about Reading and Maths in LSK2 and be able to spend time with your child having a go at some reading and maths activities.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Enjoy the weekend!

We are going to be on Trax FM!

Today, these children recorded with Trax FM as part of their little school project. Next week, from 3:30pm-4:00pm the children will be on the radio every day, answering questions and telling jokes for the whole week. They were all fabulous and I can’t wait to tune in!

Fairtrade

Today we have been learning about Fairtrade.  The children were shocked to find out about the living conditions of cocoa farmers and the fact that they only earned 80p a day.  We have found out why Fairtrade is so important for small-scale farmers and found out about some Fairtrade products.

Home Learning Challenge – Can you find any examples of Fairtrade products if you go shopping this weekend? Write a list of how many Fairtrade products you can find.

York Chocolate Story

We had a lovely day today at the York Chocolate Story – the children had a great time making lollipops and edible wallpaper. I hope no one is sick tonight, there were quite a few samples to eat!

Hopefully our hands on experience will help us in our expedition and we will be able to describe the sights, sounds and smells of a chocolate factory as well as the delicious taste of chocolate.

Maths and more…

Next week we will start our next Maths unit on addition and subtraction. We will start by adding and subtracting multiples of ten to 3 digit numbers before moving on to look at column addition and subtraction.

Please continue to support your child with their times tables and look out for more information about Maths Family Learning events coming soon.
