We are going to be on Trax FM!

Today, these children recorded with Trax FM as part of their little school project. Next week, from 3:30pm-4:00pm the children will be on the radio every day, answering questions and telling jokes for the whole week. They were all fabulous and I can’t wait to tune in!

What a week!

We spent the start of this week eating and smelling more chocolate than we could possibly eat. I hope that nobody ended up being sick! It was certainly an adventure and the children were buzzing with ideas and excitement (that might have just been the sugar!) that we hope will transfer into their next steps of learning. They made lollipops and chocolate bars with edible wallpaper. I’m not too sure about the bubblegum flavour that they chose though!

We have learnt the skills of note making so that we have been able to begin researching important facts about the production of chocolate from bean to bar. This will be vital as we write our final product texts.

In Maths we have started to explore patterns of addition and subtraction. All of this learning will be easier if all children can recall number bonds really quickly. Please practice these at home until they are automatic.

Just a reminder that PE days will still be the same this term. Indoor PE is Wednesday and outdoor will be Friday (weather permitting). Children MUST have a spare pair of trainers to go outside with as the field is so muddy. Tracksuit tops and trousers are also advised as it is still cold.

Remember to keep reading regularly at home and practicing those times tables. All children have their Rockstars login in their reading records.

What an effort.

Today, we have finished preparing resources to make our learning environment look chocolaty. It has been a hugely enjoyable task creating the objects and artwork to make the school look amazing.

Speaking of amazing, thank you all so much for supporting the school and your child by sending them in such awesome and imaginative costumes today. It has been the source of great laughter and fun and has lit up the end of a tiring first week back. Thank you!

A reminder that the final hook activity will happen on Monday when Year 3 visit the Chocolate Story in York. Please send your child in normal school uniform and don’t forget to send them with some lunch (unless you have ordered a school packed lunch). The children were all full of excitement for Monday as they left the building today. We can’t wait!

Superb Art.

Today, we began to explore the origins of chocolate. We looked at a cocoa pod and cocoa beans and started to apply some of the art skills that were learnt last term to draw them. This is the start of the art that will appear on our final product boards later in the expedition. We also continued to add extra decoration to our learning environments.

We are looking forward to dressing up as characters inspired by the story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tomorrow and watching the film to complete our week of ‘hooking’ into  our new expedition.

Maths and more…

Next week we will start our next Maths unit on addition and subtraction. We will start by adding and subtracting multiples of ten to 3 digit numbers before moving on to look at column addition and subtraction.

Please continue to support your child with their times tables and look out for more information about Maths Family Learning events coming soon.

Charlie.

Today, we introduced ourselves to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and we discussed what we already knew  about the story. We compared different front covers of the book and noticed some similarities and differences.

We also talked about countries in the world. As a group, we listed as many countries as we could and tried to find them on a world map. We then used an Atlas to check if we were right where we also discovered the names of lots of new countries.

This afternoon we did an entry ticket for our new expedition and then we continued to create our new learning environment.

Please keep collecting and sending in any suitable sweet containers or wrappers.

Welcome back.

Happy New Year!

Today we have learnt about the idea of crew and how we can build a crew in 3P. We aim to build positive relationships with each other to help us to grow.

We launched our new expedition ‘What is the cost of a bar of chocolate?’ We thought about what knowledge we already had and also considered what we would like to learn during the expedition. Then we started to build our learning environment to make it much more chocolaty!

If you have any plastic sweet tubs or wrappers in one piece from Christmas, please send them in to school. We can use them!

Next Monday we go on our exciting adventure to the York Chocolate Story. Please make sure all contributions for the trip are paid as today was the deadline for all payments.

Almost there!

We have enjoyed a fabulous week doing various Christmas crafts. We have created cards, calendars and the amazing pom pom baubles that were sold at the Christmas fair. Thanks to everyone who supported the fair, we sold all of our pom poms and raised some money to invest back into the children.

All of the children have arrived full of excitement for their Christmas party this afternoon and we have enough food donations to feed an army – thank you again!

As we approach the final day of the term, we shall be ending the year with the traditional carols around the tree. All parents and carers are invited to join us although please keep an eye on the app as the forecast is not very promising.

Can we take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and happy and peaceful new year.

Years 3&4 film night

Years 3&4 have had so much at their film night tonight watching the Grinch in their Pj’s! They are currently eating hotdogs and drinking chocolate milkshake! Thank you to all the staff who stayed to support this event and to parents for supporting us to raise money for school funds. The children have behaved beautifully and are very much so in the Christmas spirit!
