I am so proud of each and every one of you 6B. You’ve come back this week with so much resilience and determination to succeed! You blew me away in all sessions this week but especially maths. Your collaboration skills have been awesome! Keep it up you lovely lot!
I want to start by showing an appreciation for Crew Chapman. What could have been a challenging week has been a breeze and really enjoyable because every one of you have settled back into class routines easily. We’ve had lots of fun playing games in crew and I feel we’ve got to learn even more about each other.
Well done to Caris for receiving the Pride of Plover award today. Caris has worked hard to get smart all week. We are very proud of you.
It’s been an exciting week in Maths. We had a paper aeroplane competition. We measured the distances the planes travelled in metric and converted the units into imperial measures. We then constructed bar charts to present the data from the competition. Well done to Rajitha and Kian for making the plane that travelled the furthest distance.
Congratulations to 6B, Crew Blackham, for passing the most quizzes on Accelerated Reader this week. A shoutout goes to 3L, Crew Lister, for moving up into second place after being third place for three weeks running.
Remember every time you pass a quiz you are in with a change of winning a box of Dunkin Doughnuts. You’ve got to read to be in it!
We have been very busy in 5W this week. It has been so nice to have all the kids back in class and lovely to see everyone. Along with working super hard in Maths lessons with their presentation, we have also enjoyed learning a dance this week! Stay tuned for the video!
Today in Crew Chapman, we designed paper aeroplanes and took part in a competition to see which group made the plane that travelled the furthest. Lots of Maths were involved as we measured in Cm then we had to covert the measurements into M and also MM. Tomorrow we are going to convert our measurements into inches, feet and yards. I wonder whose plane flew the furthest! Check our blog tomorrow to find out. Awesome Maths, Crew Chapman!
6B had such fun in maths this morning. They had to solve lots of problems before creating their aeroplanes and seeing how far they would fly. We then had to measure how far they travelled. The children are so excited to input their data and create a bar chart tomorrow! Well done 6B!
Maths has been a little ‘problemathic’ today. We have had to work collaboratively to solve mathematical problems using a variety of methods and all four operations. Perhaps you could ask your child if their team solved the problems and how they themselves contributed to the collaboration. Well done everyone. Listening to you supporting each other and challenging each other’s thinking made me feel so proud of you all. Keep working hard!
Today we read our key text closely and then thought about what we needed clarifying to help us make sure that we completely understood what we were reading.
Some great questions generated guys and, once we had finished reading our extract, most of you were able to find the answers to your questions. Well done for getting smart!
Congratulations to 6C for passing the most quizzes last week, for the third week running. A shout out goes to 6H for moving into second place and 3L gets a shout out for being third place for the last four weeks.
Which class will be at the top of the league this Friday. Will 6C be knocked off? Will 3L move up into second or first place? Will a class from Year 5 or Year 4, move into the top 3 positions.
Keep reading and quizzing to help your class win the league. Don’t forget everytime you pass a quiz, you will be in with a chance to win a box of doughnuts.
This week in Maths, our learning is all about aeroplanes. Our first challenge was to find the quickest way to calculate the number of seats on an aeroplane based on a seating plan. We collaborated by sharing our ideas and testing them. We had a good range of methods used, using a mix operations. Kian gave the quickest method. His calculation was: 25 x 6 – 2. A shout out goes to Layla and Sofia. Their method was not the quickest but was efficient: (24 x 3) x2 + 4.
They were also challenged to work out how many more tickets were needed to be sold to earn the airline £25, 000. Again there were some great collaborative learning in the lesson. Caris was able to identify the steps he needed to take to work it out. Harry, Xavier and Jack persevered until they found the answer.
It has been wonderful today to see the children’s creativity in Maths. Awesome, Crew Chapman!
