Gorgeous collages

Year 5 have been getting creative in art, inspired by the brilliant artist Clare Youngs. Clare makes colourful animal collages using lots of different shapes, patterns and textures – and we decided to have a go ourselves!

Our theme was rainforest animals. We created creatures like butterflies, jaguars, toucans, birds and monkeys. First, we drafted our ideas and sketched out how our animals might look. Then came the really exciting part – working with a partner to create a final collage together. It was great fun to share ideas, combine our designs and see how two brains could come together to make one amazing piece of artwork.

The finished collages are bright, bold and full of rainforest life. They look incredible on display and really show off our teamwork as well as our creativity.

We’re so proud of what we’ve made – Clare Youngs would be too!

Lots of celebrations in our community crew!

This lovely lot were presented with certificates for their participation in last week’s pizza making workshop. Another example of craftsmanship and quality as they made the most beautiful pizzas!

Well done everyone

Stretch and challenge in maths

Well done to the talented mathematicians in Year 5 who completed all their set (and extended) work with such accuracy they were able to challenge themselves to additional problem solving on the carpet this morning, amazing!

Pizza making workshop!

Some children from Year 5 & 6 were able to engage in a pizza making workshop at Pizza Express. They each made a margarita pizza through the guidance of Adrian the pizza maker. The children really enjoyed the workshop and getting to eat the pizzas. To spread kindness, some of the pizzas were shared with staff at XP to thank them for their hard work organising the arts festival and then to Plover staff to thank them for their hard work too!

Enjoy the video!

The Great Kapok Tree

This week, Year 5 have been diving into The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. The story, set in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, sparked some fantastic discussions about nature, conservation, and the importance of every creature in an ecosystem.

Inspired by the book, the children created their very own kapok trees. They worked carefully to bring the rainforest to life through their artwork, using bright colours and imaginative detail to make their trees unique and vibrant.

The children showed their character trait of quality and craftsmanship throughout the project. Each piece was produced with real care, attention, and creativity – and the results were stunning!

Well done, Year 5 – your kapok trees are a true celebration of both art and storytelling.
