Last week, we had an amazing assembly and workshop with Rocksteady where we got to learn all about different musical instruments and how to play them. Some lucky children were selected to practise in a Plover band using the instruments to play the song “livin’ on a prayer”. It was lovely to see such excitement and engagement from all.
For those who were inspired to learn a new musical skill, there is the option of weekly school rock and pop band lessons with Rocksteady! Visit rocksteadymusicschool.com to check available spaces.

KS1 were visited by Tim from RockSteady today. He showed us all of the exciting instruments we can learn if we sign up to some music lessons. We drummed along, sang and played our air guitars! We had a great time and even made our own band by the end of the session. We had great fun and we’re really keen to start learning instruments. You never know, we could be having our own performances by the end of the year! Please check out the letter for details!

On the final day of Hook Week, we spent some of the morning in our crews designing a Crew robot. We combined our ideas to design a robot that makes healthy snacks/drinks and encourages different physical activities to keep people fit and healthy. I would like to say a huge shoutout to all of the adults who came in to support the children with creating the robot in our family learning event in the afternoon. Everyone worked well together to make our amazing design a reality and should be super proud of the end product.

Last week, we were super impressed with our expert visitor, Phil Sheppard, who came to school to teach us how to draw The Iron Man from our key text: The Iron Man. Everyone listened carefully to follow the steps of how to draw it and should be so proud of the beautiful work produced!

We’ve had some fun, active lessons learning all about animals in Hook Week. First, we played an active food chain game to learn about the flow of energy within a food chain between grass, deer and wolves. Then, we worked in teams to classify different types in animals as either a mammal, reptile, amphibian, insect, fish, bird or arachnid based on their different features. Everyone took part and had lots of fun while learning.

A bit of both if I’m honest!
Grouping animals using scientific terms such as vertebrate, mammal, reptile (and many more) was more tricky than many of us first thought it would be. However, we quickly discovered that it was our understanding of the terms that we were struggling with, not the grouping of the animals. So, we followed our HoWL of Get Smart and used a range of information sheets, as well as some great videos, to help us with our understanding of the key vocabulary.
Now we are able to group animals using their classification group with a lot more accuracy.
Keep using the information around you to Get Smart 3H; and the progress in your knowledge and understanding will be great!
