Danum Read Aloud – Year 3 Heats

A HUGE well done to the brave children from Year 3 for performing their speeches today. We were so proud of the effort that you all put into your speeches. You read with confidence, clear voices and tried so hard with some really tricky words. I am excited to let you know who is making it to the Plover final at the beginning of next week. Keep practising as it might be you! Miss Topliss #LovePlover

Terrific teeth!🦷

This week we have loved learning all about teeth. We have learnt about the different parts teeth and the tooth; learnt about the effects of sugary drinks and the importance of brushing our teeth. We then used all of our knowledge gained to create a poster persuading children to look after their teeth. Well done for your hard work!

Marvellous measuring 📏

This week we have started our new maths unit on measurement. The kids have enjoyed exploring different units of measure, measuring items in cm mm and m as well as converting. Keep up the good, collaborative work!

Spring Handwriting Competition

You produced such lovely poems when we held our Autumn handwriting competition, I thought it would be a good idea to update our display with poems that reflect the coming season – Spring.

Choose an appropriate poem from the selection attached to this blog and copy it out beautifully, using your best handwriting and presentation.

You can decorate it and use colour if you wish.

Please give completed poems to Mrs Graves by Monday 6th March.

Lightning Squad

What a great start to our half term. It’s only the second day back and I’ve already awarded four certificates for fantastic phonics and reading in The Lightning Squad.

Well done to Julita, Jerzie, Baran and Conor!

Look out for Lightning Squad letters so you can continue learning by logging on at home. You can claim your home learning hours on children’s university for this activity with stamp code ORANGE0161

World Book Day

World Book Day will be celebrated on 2nd March 2023. Children are invited to dress up if they wold like to as their favourite book character. Please do not feel any pressure to buy costumes (children can wear uniform as normal if they wish). Children are also welcome to make a badge, wear a themed t-shirt or make an accessory from their favourite story or that their favourite character uses! We will celebrate as a school throughout the day and all children will receive the £1 book token that they can exchange for a World Book Day special edition book, which are available to buy in local bookshops and supermarkets.

Please take a look at the amazing competition detailed below as part of World Book Day!

World Book Day® is helping to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cressida Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon with a truly magical prize. One lucky winner will have the change to go on a 3-day family trip to Soltau in Germany to stay at Heide Park, the theme park that is home to an entire land based around How to Train Your Dragon. https://www.worldbookday.com/howtotrainyourdragon/

Danum Read Aloud

KS2 children are invited to take part in the Danum Read Aloud! The children have the chance to take part in a school competition, where they will perform one of a series of speeches provided by their class teacher. There is a round for each KS2 year group (3, 4, 5 and 6) before a school final on 24th February. One lucky school winner will then be invited to perform their speech one more time at the Danum Read Aloud at Danum Gallery, Library and Museum on 30th March for the chance to win £50! Please see Miss Topliss (Year 6) with any questions. #LovePlover
