Swimming with plastic!

The Year 6 children have been well and truly hooked into our new cycle of writing! Today, they had the opportunity to swim with plastic at Armthorpe baths to take on the perspective of sea creatures, swimming in our plastic filled seas.
I am so impressed with the discussions and suggestions the children were having and how hooked in they were to their learning. The children reflected during the session and it was so powerful to see how this experience has impacted them. I can’t wait to read the awesome poetry that I know is going to come from today’s hook!
Well done Year 6, you have made us very proud!

Something awesome this way comes…

What a fabulous start to the new half term!  All children have returned from the half term break with great enthusiasm for their learning and have produced some phenomenal work across a range of subjects in a short period of time.  They cannot wait to see their hard work in its final form, which I am sure they would be more than happy to tell you all about.

However, please encourage your child to use their Rockstar Times Tables account; to practise their spellings; and to read to a parent, older sibling or other trusted adult as regularly possible…those dreaded SATs are on the horizon and all of these elements will help your child to prepare for them as best they can.

Playground Prefects

Commencing after half term, members of Y6 will become playground prefects.  This is where children will be allocated specific responsibilities in or order to ensure that play times are safe, fun and inclusive for all children.

Please remember to read with your child at home, practice their spellings and times tables with them and remind them to complete some home learning.

Thank you for your support.

Free Books All Round!

Your child will be coming home tonight with a free Roald Dahl book which has been provided by Doncaster library.  We cannot thank them enough for this generous donation to our school.  All children were really grateful and I hope they enjoy reading their books at home or in school.

Come and join the fun!

Tomorrow,  Tuesday 22nd October, is our Halloween Disco.  Please come along – it is up to you if you wish to come in fancy dress or not.  Children can pay their entrance fee of £1 on the door as they arrive and bring extra cash for sweets and drinks.  Be mindful about how your child will be getting home afterwards – please provide your child with a signed, handwritten note if you wish them to walk home alone afterwards.

6H + 6B = Collaboration at its best!

6H and 6B have been working really hard to support each other in their maths learning today. It was so nice to see all pupils working together and sharing their thoughts and ideas in order to be successful.

Well done all!

WOWEE!! Mrs H’s word of the day.

There have been so many times where I have been able to say WOWEE today.  All pupils have been outstanding all day long.  However, 2 of these amazing pupils have blown me away.  Special mentions to Leland Cooley and Kyren Milner.  I have barely recognised the two young men in front of me today – they have been so hard working, helpful and polite.  Keep being amazing boys!

P.S.  The rest of you are absolutely fabulous too! 🙂

Crew shout outs!

Well done to above children who all received a shout out in today’s crew assembly! The top photo shows the children who have earned the most coins on TT Rockstars. The following photo shows our super spellers followed by our top readers and then the children who have been voted by their peers for following the Plover pledge. The final photo shows the children who have improved the most in their arithmetic. Another shoutout to Lucas from 6B and Jack Y from 5K who are not photographed!
Well done everyone! Keep it up! Let’s see if we can have new faces up there next week!

Spelling is important!

Once again, Years 5 & 6 have been challenging themselves to become better spellers.  Please support your child with the learning of the words they have been bringing home.

Congratulations to this week’s strongest spellers who are:

Luca, Leland, Dominik and Aisha – perfect scores all round from these pupils.  Well done.
