Back to school!
It’s been lovely to see everyone back in F1 this week, and how nicely our early starters have slotted in, making lots of new friends. We’ve had lots of fun exploring the snow, role play and working on our fine/gross motor skills.

See how we grow
This morning we looked at the different stages in our life, and created a timeline of how we grow. We learnt key words such as toddler and teenager.

How do things grow and change?
This week we have started our new expedition, see how things grow. We have enjoyed a visit from both a baby and a toddler, comparing the different things they can we. We then looked at our baby photos, to see how we have grown and changed over 5e last 3/4 years.

Personal Timelines
We looked at some adorable photos of our crew as toddlers and babies. The children spoke about what they couldn’t do but can do now as a child. Having met a real life baby and toddler this week they came up with really good comparisons. #LovePlover
6B are leading their own learning in maths!
6B have been working hard on their academic pledges. This afternoon, they have been leading their own learning and working on their areas for development in maths. They have used models and our maths revision site to support. They are excited to smash their pledge this week!

Classification or chaos?
A bit of both if I’m honest!
Grouping animals using scientific terms such as vertebrate, mammal, reptile (and many more) was more tricky than many of us first thought it would be. However, we quickly discovered that it was our understanding of the terms that we were struggling with, not the grouping of the animals. So, we followed our HoWL of Get Smart and used a range of information sheets, as well as some great videos, to help us with our understanding of the key vocabulary.
Now we are able to group animals using their classification group with a lot more accuracy.
Keep using the information around you to Get Smart 3H; and the progress in your knowledge and understanding will be great!

Expert visitor workshop with Phil Sheppard
Everyone absolutely loved our expert visitor, Phil Sheppard, who came to school to tell us more about our key text: The Iron Man, written by Ted Hughes. Not only did we learn more about the author and the book, but we were also told about The Mexborough Iron Man Trail. This wasn’t all…he also taught us all how to drawn our own Iron Man. We are so proud of the beautiful work we produced!
Who’d have thought it’d be so easy to draw The Iron Man? Thank you, Phil, for coming. We all learnt so much and are going to design our own robots using the skills you taught us later this week!

Active Scientific Learning in Year 3
Year 3 have played food chain tag today. Some of us pretended to be grass, which was eaten by those of us who were deer. Then in turn, the deer were eaten by the wolves. Seeing the visual effect of this food chain made us realise that the wolves were the apex predators in this example. The children had fun, got active and learnt lots all at the same time.
