1CU’s Cheeky Phonics!

In Year 1, we have been really working hard on our phonics, especially looking for those sneaky special friends that are hiding in words. To help us find them we decided to dot and dash our words, but with a cheeky twist! We hope our lovely cleaners won’t be too upset, we did our best to tidy up after!

First on the scene

In English, we looked at the descriptive language used in a Pathe news report of the horrific 1966 Aberfan mining disaster. After, children were challenged to act as journalists and report from the scene. It was great to hear your news reports come to life! Well done.

Children Dress Up Day

It was wonderful to see the children dressing up as a book characters today. There were lots of different characters. Well done to (Cinderella) Faye, (Robot) Farhan and (Little Miss Chatterbox) Ada for their home made costumes! You’ll receive prizes tomorrow in community crew. #LovePlover

Unpicking age related models to support leading our own learning!

Today, our lovely Year 6’s kick-started their narrative cycle by looking at a range of age-related pieces of writing as models. They discussed the features the models included as well as what made them strong pieces of writing. We all agreed these pieces built cohesion which is our focus for this term. I’m really looking forward to seeing our final pieces as the weeks unfold!

Well done 6B!

World Book Day

2P had a great time celebrating World Book Day. We all wore amazing costumes and even shared some of our favourite books. We enjoyed our story-telling workshop with Phil Sheppard and even got a free book to take home! We shared our new books and loved all of the fun that we had.

Story time tales on World Book Day

The whole school enjoyed time with author and illustrator, Phil Sheppard as part of their World Book Day! Listening to him tell his stories live was a magical experience for many!

There’s nothing better than a good story being brought to life!
