First day back in 4B!

We have had an amazing first day back in 4B. We have learnt all about our character trait courage and how we can demonstrate that in school.

The children have shown great courage in a serious of activities including interacting with some creep crawlies: Charlie the spider, Humphrey the snake and cinnamon and liquorice the millipedes. Although many were nervous at first, all have shown great courage to face their fears and push themselves out of their comfort zone and should be very proud of themselves.

They also worked as a team to successfully complete some outdoor challenges to collect the gems of courage.

Overall, a fantastic, active start to the week!

3G – How courageous are you?

It was great to welcome everyone back for the start of the new school year.

This week is based around developing our positive character traits and today, the focus was on ‘Courage’ – and really did have to face our fears (me included!).

We were lucky enough to be visited by Nick from Project Wild, who brought some of his little friends along with him – Humphrey the snake, Cinnamon and Liquorice the millipedes and Charlie the Tarantula!! Many of us had to show a lot of courage, as we held, stroked or high-fived our mini-beast visitors! It was amazing to see how everyone embraced the situation and really used their courage – even though they had been so scared to begin with!

We then completed some ‘Commando Joe’ challenges, working together to problem-solve and support each other to be courageous.

Finally we discussed different types of courage and how courage is often represented in films and stories, and thought about if we were to create a courageous character, what would they be like!

We have had a great day and I feel so proud of everyone and how they took part in the challenges we have thrown at them today – what a great start to the school year.

I wonder what tomorrow’s character trait will be?

The Plover colour run is back! Thursday 28th August!

We will be kick-starting the new academic year focusing on character traits. As part of our first week back, we will be looking at the character trait compassion and raising funds for our crew charity of the year – the RSPCA as well raising much needed school funds. Letters will be sent out in the first week back and we require them to be signed in order for your child to participate.

We are kindly asking for donations which will be split between the RSPCA and school funds. These donations can be made every day in the first week back and we ask they are passed on to your child’s class teacher.

Please can your child attend school on the day in either a white or light coloured t-shirt. Whilst we would hope the paint will come out once the clothes have been washed, we ask you only send your child in clothes you do not mind being stained just incase the paint will not wash out.

Thank you for your continued support. Any questions, please see Mr Meade or Miss Blackham.

Staying safe around water

At this week’s swimming lesson, as part of drowning prevention week, Year 5 worked with the teachers to understand the key aspects of water safety, and learning to swim when they are fully clothed. Every child fully understood the importance and was able to articulate well how they could remain safe.

To supplement this, we created water safety posters in our we care Wednesday crew session which are now on display at the leisure centre, well done!

Our 2025 winner of the ‘Ben Parkinson courage’ award!

A huge shout out to Kiara who won the ‘Ben Parkinson courage’ award today for her commitment and resilience this year! We are so proud of her! As a reward for her hard work, Ben has kindly offered to pay for her place on the London trip. Ben would like to offer this every year as recognition to the individual who wins this annual award!

⭐

Thank you so much Ben and we are so pleased you liked the beautiful work the children have been working so hard on! We are so proud of this final product and can’t wait to see it up at the British Red Cross in Frenchgate very soon!

Crew Schofield prepare for VE Day

Today in crew, we learnt about the significant event of Victory in Europe day – the events leading to and the subsequent celebrations of the end of World War Two. We then consolidated our knowledge by creating posters to decorate the classroom ahead of the 80th anniversary celebrations tomorrow.

I look forward to your designs forming part of our party decorations tomorrow, well done!

Activism in Year 5

A massive well done to year 5 who joined the council and police neighbourhood teams yesterday to complete a very thorough litter pick in our local neighbourhood. It was wonderful to see you all working so hard to make Intake a better place!
