We are quest survivors!

Years 3 and 4 have had a wonderful time in their crews today as we launched our new expedition: Coming to Doncaster: Why then and why now?

They were faced with a range of Roman challenges, from an archeological dig to solving maths questions using Roman numerals. Completion of these challenges proved them worthy of unlocking the chest and joining a side of their choice – the Roman army or a Celtic tribe…

4H have compassion!

4H have been carrying out simple acts of kindness and asking others to pay this kindness forward. Over the last few days, ‘Pay it Forward’ tickets have been passed around school between both pupils and teachers within the Year 3/4 phase. When a chain of four kind acts had been carried out, the tickets were returned to our basket of kindness.

The baby egg challenge proved to be a great hit! Designing our baby eggs; dressing them and naming them was much more important to the children than I anticipated. They cared for their eggs so well – taking them everywhere with them and putting them down for a nap over lunchtime. Thankfully there was only one casualty – and that was only a very small crack.

The most compassionate moment of the day (in my eyes) was towards the end of the day whilst watching a video about kindness on the screen. Joe looked at his egg and a horrified expression crossed his face! His baby egg couldn’t see the screen so he turned his egg to ‘face’ it!

Keep paying it forward folks – compassion is a wonderful trait to have!

3V were courageous!

Last week we focussed on character traits! On Tuesday our focus was courage so Nick the bug man from Project Wild came in. We especially loved Charlie the tarantula but we also met Humphrey the snake and a pair of millepedes. Well done 3V you were awesome!

Showing compassion and integrity in the community

Building on our crew week introduction to character traits, a group of Year 5 and 6 pupils today supported Doncaster Council to improve our local area by picking litter in the streets and community spaces around our school.

The children were very disappointed to see such high levels of litter where bins are made available, expressing their frustration that some people (and their dogs!) choose to make a mess around the streets where they live. They pledged to always have the integrity to dispose of waste properly, and to report anyone not doing so.

Great work, guys – you are true stewards of our Plover and Intake community!

Colour run fun!

We have been working on the character trait compassion. Yesterday, we held our colour run and raised money for the RSPCA (our whole school charity) and for school funds. We are determined to support our school and wider community this year.

Thank you all for your support with the colour run, we hope your children enjoyed it!

3G’s ‘Eggcellent’ compassion day

Today’s character trait has been ‘compassion’.

As part of the day, we have shown compassion to our ‘Baby Eggs’, who needed clothing, shelter and care – we had great fun using our imagination to create them.

Then it was the colour run in aid of our school and chosen charity the RSPCA (that we learnt about yesterday). Despite a few early drops of rain, we had great fun turning ourselves into colourful rainbows!!

Team building in Crew Lewis

Today our new crew took part in a fun and challenging team-building activity designed to get everyone working together. The task sounded simple: build the tallest tower you can… using only your shoes!

At first, there were puzzled faces and lots of laughter. How could we possibly turn our shoes into a tower? But with some creative thinking, clever balancing, and plenty of cooperation, we began stacking, leaning, and problem-solving their way to success.

It wasn’t just about the tallest tower—it was about communication, and teamwork. The children quickly learned that listening to each other’s ideas was the key to keeping the tower standing. Others discovered that patience and persistence were just as important as speed.

Well done to everyone for showing such fantastic collaboration and creativity—our crew is off to a brilliant start!

Showing compassion in Year 5 & 6

Yesterday, we kick started our first week back and looked at the character trait ‘compassion’. We looked at what it means to be compassionate and show compassion and then we left school to engage in acts of service with our local care home. Some of our children played board games with the residents and they all had so much fun. The children learnt a lot from the residents such as how to play a range of card games and how to play dominoes. We are so proud of the relationships we are building with this care home and we hope to build on this throughout the year.

In a world where you can be anything, always be kind.

First day back in 4B!

We have had an amazing first day back in 4B. We have learnt all about our character trait courage and how we can demonstrate that in school.

The children have shown great courage in a serious of activities including interacting with some creep crawlies: Charlie the spider, Humphrey the snake and cinnamon and liquorice the millipedes. Although many were nervous at first, all have shown great courage to face their fears and push themselves out of their comfort zone and should be very proud of themselves.

They also worked as a team to successfully complete some outdoor challenges to collect the gems of courage.

Overall, a fantastic, active start to the week!

3G – How courageous are you?

It was great to welcome everyone back for the start of the new school year.

This week is based around developing our positive character traits and today, the focus was on ‘Courage’ – and really did have to face our fears (me included!).

We were lucky enough to be visited by Nick from Project Wild, who brought some of his little friends along with him – Humphrey the snake, Cinnamon and Liquorice the millipedes and Charlie the Tarantula!! Many of us had to show a lot of courage, as we held, stroked or high-fived our mini-beast visitors! It was amazing to see how everyone embraced the situation and really used their courage – even though they had been so scared to begin with!

We then completed some ‘Commando Joe’ challenges, working together to problem-solve and support each other to be courageous.

Finally we discussed different types of courage and how courage is often represented in films and stories, and thought about if we were to create a courageous character, what would they be like!

We have had a great day and I feel so proud of everyone and how they took part in the challenges we have thrown at them today – what a great start to the school year.

I wonder what tomorrow’s character trait will be?
