5/6 Christmas cards

The time is nearly upon us to start thinking about Christmas in school. Many children and adults ask us about cards. Due to the current situation, we have thought about how best to go about the giving and receiving of cards in school this year.

This year, please only send cards to children in your year group bubble (eg 6B, 6H & 6C or 5W & 5K).

From December 1st, children can bring cards and place them in the year group post box. This will be in their classroom. Cards can be dropped in any day up until 11th December.

On 11th December, the post box will close and no further cards can come into school. This will mean all cards will enter a period of quarantine. On Tuesday 15th December, all cards will be given out.

Please ask a member of the 5/6 team if you have any further questions.

Thank you for your support in helping to enjoy the joy of giving and receiving cards, whilst keeping everyone safe.

Reading around unfamiliar words

Year 6 have been working really hard to read around the text to discover word meaning! They made predictions before researching the actual definitions and they were have added them to our word wall! When done 6B!

Responding to critique as artists

Last week, Year 6 produced some stunning artwork to be featured in our end product for our current Expedition (which is being made as we speak, how exciting!)

They have worked extremely hard and are now perfecting their work based on their critique. I am so impressed with the quality of the work they have produced and the skills they have developed this Expedition! Keep it up superstars!

6B’s weekly postcard winners!

Shout out to these superstars who have blown me away this week with their attitude to learning! All of these children have worked extremely hard on achieving their ME’s and working towards achieving 4’s on their HOWLS. I have seen: amazing artwork, impressive times tables recalling and some beautiful home learning from this lovely lot! So well done and keep shining! You make me so proud 💙

What does it mean to be kind?

Yesterday in crew, we discussed what it means to be kind and what we can do to be kind to others. We created kind pledges to stick up in our classroom to remind us to always be kind!

Get ahead in your learning!

We will shortly be moving onto division using the bus stop method. Use this video to support you to get ahead in your learning.

Remember all maths lessons are accessible at the end of each week via google classroom to use as a revision tool. I am so impressed with the amount of children who are using google classroom to support their learning. Remember, if you share your learning with your teacher, you will be rewarded with crew coins!

Random act of kindness!

In crew last week, we challenged ourselves to be kinder. We discussed lots of things we can do as random acts of kindness. Today, we created birthday cards for a 90 year old gentleman who is alone for his 90th birthday as part of the adopt a grandparent scheme. We hope our cards put a smile on his face this weekend. Well done 6B

Improving our rapid recall of times tables!

You may see some of my lovely 6B’s wearing a sticker with a times table question on that they have been struggling with. We would love you to stop and ask them the question to support them with their rapid recall! They are really enjoying the challenge and I am already seeing an improvement with their times tables!

Real war memorabilia!

We have lots of fun looking at real war memorabilia and discussing the items. The children had the opportunity to try some items on. They also had to guess who the items belonged to before sketching! The children have had such a fun day and they have learnt so much! Ask your children something they have learnt today. I know they’ll have lots to share!
