We were very excited today when the hedgehog arrived from the museum service.

A letter is coming home today about our Austerfield visit. Please send the form back to school as soon as possible and pay on ParentPay.

Creative day

We have spent the day making animals for our woodland environment. We have painted squirrels, made badgers, foxes, hedgehogs and have made owls by cutting and sticking paper. We have added them to our environment.

The children chose Khongkwan for our Plover Postcard today as she persevered in making her owl. Well done Khongkwan.

Walk to the woods

F2 visited Sandal Beat Woods today. We had lots of fun using our senses to explore the woodlands and discovering what lives there. We found out where animals build their homes and were lucky enough to spot a few squirrels. We climbed over, under and even inside the trees. Thank you to all of the grown-ups who came with us. We can’t wait for our next Woodland visit on 25th February, when we will exploring the woods around Austerfield Study Centre. Look out for a letter soon!

Maths in F2 -weeks 1 and 2

We are learning numbers to 20. For some of us this means counting 20 objects. Some of us will be focusing on recognition of the numbers. We will be adding and subtracting using numbers to 20 and some of us will then go on to do problem solving and reasoning.

These are some websites with ideas and resources that you may find useful.

Who is in the woods?

We had an enjoyable start to hook week. We learnt to sign Who is in the woods?. We went outside and looked at the trees and leaves. We thought about what they felt like, looked like and what we could hear.

We have played in provision exploring our new resources. We particularly enjoyed the clay.

We are walking to the woods tomorrow. We will need waterproofs and wellies.

Reading rewards

In January, we will be starting a reward system for reading across the year group.. Every child who reads at least three times a week at home will get a sticker at the end of the week. If they complete each week of the half term then they will get a reward.

To help in this, please can you help your child with the following?

  1. Ensure that you write in the yellow reading diary when your child has read, even if this is just the pages they have read.

  1. Ensure that the yellow reading diary is in school with their book each day.

  1. Come into school in a morning and help your child to change their book when it needs changing. If their book doesn’t need changing then they can place it on the table in their classroom for checking.

  1. If your child is at breakfast club, please speak to the breakfast club staff and let them know if your child’s book needs changing. We will then help them to change it when they come down to F2.

Thank you for your support
