Today we have been working collaboratively to paint and collage our picture of a cake. We explored a variety different of materials including paint, glitter and tissue paper.

Following our expedition input around our key text “CAKE”, the children played nicely alongside each other to make their own cupcakes and cookies. We used our motor skills to roll the play dough, using both our hands and rolling pins, and used cutters to create shapes.

Yesterday we had a surprise box in our classroom, we looked at what items were inside and discovered that our expedition learning was going to be all about celebrations! We read the story CAKE, and were very excited to learn about parties.

We opened up the box to find out what was inside. There were lots of objects and the children decided that they were for a birthday party. We shared the story “Cake” to hook us into the rest of hook week and painted and collaged the cake for our display. We talked about the different textures.

Whilst learning our school rules, F1 have also been looking at our new school character traits and what British values are. We can’t wait to explore these deeper in the coming weeks.

Today we have learnt how to keep our bodies healthy, by learning to wash our hands. We used glitter to represent germs and practised washing our hands thoroughly using soap. We noticed that if you just dip your hands in the water the germs don’t come off, you need to soap to wash them properly.
We learnt the song “wash wash wash our hands, wash our hands all day. Wash wash wash our hands, wash the germs away”.

In nursery we have been exploring colours and colour mixing. We painted our hands two different colours, then made predications on what colour it would turn when we rubbed them together.

Today we have practised pencil grip/control in nursery, tracing over our names. Some children absolutely wow’ed me being able to copy their name underneath! What amazing work.
