We have had a mathematical day today! We’ve been making equal groups and then doing repeated addition using our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. It’s been brilliant! We’ve all enjoyed finding answers, using manipulatives. It’s been hands on- just how we like it! 👍
A Right Royal Celebration!
Having come to school in a mixture of red, white and blue colours, Key Stage 1 have been celebrating this weekend’s Coronation. We had some amazing crowns created for our competition and somemlovely Royal outfits.
After a lovely, Royal themed picnic lunch, this afternoon the children have been busy doing different activities as part of our expedition case case study about King Charles. We have been flag colouring, Corgi obstacle course creating, playing King’s corners and finally learning to sing and sign our National Anthem. The children only had 20 minutes each to learn the signs and then come together for a joint singalong. I’m sure you’ll agree that for such a short learning time, the children did amazingly well! We’re all ready for the Coronation this weekend now.

Coronation Picnic
The children loved their Union Jack boxes full of delicious food. Shout out to our kitchen staff for all their efforts! What a lovely way to celebrate together!
Football Fridays
Multiplication
This week we have been counting in 2s,5s and 10s. Today, we made equal groups of 5 and tried to count them in 5s. Some of us needed to use a 100 square to help us see the pattern of counting in 5s. We are going to practice counting aloud in 5s to 50. Maybe you could try at home too to make it easier to count things in groups of 5. Most of us were good at counting aloud in 2s and 10s so we could count the groups more easily.

Phonics!
My phonics group ALL got postcards today. They all worked hard and got smart. I loved teaching them and seeing them improve!
KS1 also started a special phonics club tonight. We did a few fun things to help us learn digraphs but it went so quickly! We did find time for an ice pop treat from the lovely Mr Meade though! 😀

We are hooked!
From building and climbing through tunnels, to creating galaxies, to handprint aliens with 5 eyes, to self portraits and King Charles portraits to dressing for an adventure. It’s been an awesome week in Year 1. We are well and truly hooked and can’t wait to see what’s next on our learning journey! Big shout out to Ines for Pride of Plover which recognised her fantastic progress in writing!
