Hook Day!

Better late than never!

To introduce our new topic, North, East, South, West, we opened up our own Plover Airport. As part of our experience day in 1CR we designed our very own passport for our upcoming adventures and talked about what our dream destinations are! We learned about our personal information and why it is important to know it.

We then had Mrs. Malik as an expert. Mrs. Malik worked in the aviation industry for a number of years in all different roles. She has been a highflying air hostess, travelling all over the world but as also had other roles at Heathrow Airport and Doncaster. The children used the time to ask her questions about her experiences.

After lunch we had our 1CR aeroplane. We watched an in flight safety video and prepared for take off! The children enjoyed some squash on the plane whilst watching a documentary about “The Day in the Life of a Pilot”.

To finish our day we followed instructions to make paper aeroplanes. We then took them outside to see who could throw theirs the furthest. A big well done to Ariana who was our overall winner!

A big thank you

We would like to say a very big thank you to Mekaal’s dad for donating some indoor and outdoor footballs. The children were very excited to see the footballs and are looking forward to playing with them later.

Team work

F1 and F2 worked together this afternoon to put the play bark and stones into the outdoor area to make 2 different areas. We got a bit messy but we had lots of fun.

Pride of Plover

Well done to the year 5 and 6 Pride of Plover this week – you’re working hard, getting smart and being kind so thoroughly deserve this amazing recognition.

Well done also to those in receipt of times tables rockstars and reading plus awards this week, keep being awesome!

Working in a coal mine

Today, 5S were shocked to learn that Victorian children as young as four had no choice but to work up to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week in mines to earn money and support their families.

In order to consider the hard work and suffering they experienced, we discussed the different jobs available to people in the mines and the gruelling work they had to undertake. We role played these jobs in groups then got back together to write about how we felt.

We all came away feeling really sorry for our ancestors who had to work this hard at such a young age. I want to praise the class for their sympathy and engagement with this lesson as it was tough to hear about.
