What Is 6?

This week we have been exploring the number 6 in maths. The children came up with some excellent answers today about what they noticed when subitising the number 6.

Pancakes!

Today in Year 2 we made pancakes, better late than never!

We followed the recipe and made the batter before Mrs Jobber showed us her expert flipping skills. They were so scrummy, a yummy treat on a rainy day.

Later on in the afternoon, we worked in mini crews to write our own instructions.

Flippin’ pancakes!

We learned how to weigh. We know that we weigh solids in grams and liquids in mls when we are cooking. We learned how to safely prepare food, chop bananas and to clean up properly to keep a hygienic kitchen. Mrs Bubb even managed to flip the pancake! Most of us loved them!

Marvellous Maths

Today we revisited counting back on the number line by making our own big number line on the carpet then we jumped down it! We all did some great learning labs to work on the areas of maths we needed a bit more help with! 5 people got postcards!!! Well done Ines, Corben, Riley, Ruby-Ann and Ianis šŸ™‚

Working Hard in Maths

Children used manipulative and people to learn to subtract and compare using number lines. Some children challenged themselves to complete problem solving questions! #LovePlover

It was a maths day.

There was maths everywhere today! Outside the children were looking at numbers on the parachute and subitising the spots. Summer and Esme’ made pretend phones adding numbers. Kaya looked at the story we had read noticing that the numbers got bigger. Elle talked about how old her sister is and that she is 5 more than Elle.

Some children worked with Miss Roberts comparing the size of giant feet. They used cubes to work out how long they were.

We all looked at different sizes of paper and ordered them by how long they were.

As part of our expedition lesson we also talked about the days of the week.

Marvellous measuring 📏

This week we have started our new maths unit on measurement. The kids have enjoyed exploring different units of measure, measuring items in cm mm and m as well as converting. Keep up the good, collaborative work!

1 more

We have been practicing 1 more today by swapping round our sentences to say 6 is 1 more than 5. Some children challenged themselves to say because.
