Mapping out our route

Today, we used the big Map to move the characters around the roads of our local area. Tomorrow we will do it for real and follow our own small maps.
We also helped beebot navigate around his picture maps.

We are crew!

We are kick starting our new term with team building in crew. We are focusing on the character trait respect this term. The children had to work in teams to build the biggest tower. They had to listen to one another’s ideas, whilst showing respect to try and build the biggest tower with their shoes!

New expedition launch in Years 3 and 4!

We have had a great first day back in Years 3 and 4. Our new expedition title is: From Bean to Bar. The guiding question our children will be answering is: What’s the cost of a bar of chocolate? Instead of simply considering the financial cost of a bar of chocolate, we will be working closely around ‘Fairtrade’ and looking at how farmers in equatorial countries are supported by the ‘Fairtrade’ foundation.

The children played a ‘Catchphrase’ style of game to work out the expedition title and guiding question – well done to Alec in 4H who used the clues on the screen to solve our conundrum first!

This afternoon we became chocolate connoisseurs by tasting a range of different ‘Fairtrade’ chocolate products. We have been considering the appearance, aroma, taste and texture of these different chocolates so that we can produce our own chocolate ‘bark’ later in the term.

We can find factors and factor pairs!

Year 4 have been busy exploring the factors and factor pairs of different values today. Well done every one. When using the manipulatives as modelled and instructed, you all managed to succeed today!

Be ready to find more factors and factor pairs of more challenging values tomorrow, folks!

Super scientists!

6B kick started their first case study today and became scientists. They predicted if solids would dissolve in liquids and if the temperature would impact the final results. They further developed their prior knowledge of states of matter. We are looking forward to even more science experiments tomorrow!

Tudor dress up day reminder for Year 5&6 pupils- Tuesday 6th January

A polite reminder about our upcoming dress up day which is on Tuesday 6th January. We are asking pupils to dress as someone/ in something resembling Tudor times. This was sent out as a letter in November and added to our parent overview before Christmas.

Please do not feel you have to buy a costume, there are lots of examples online. Your child may want to come dressed in dark colours with faceprint resembling coal/dirt to come as a poor person in Tudor times. They could also dress as maids/servants. Some children have drawn a Tudor rose over the holidays and are sticking this to a plain t-shirt.

We are really looking forward to this upcoming expedition and can’t wait for all the engaging lessons we have planned. Any questions, please do contact me- [email protected]
