Roots of Empathy!

This week in F2 we had a visit from Baby T. The children really enjoyed learning about what he can do and seeing his responses to the different toys. They loved the smiles he made when they sang to him. We look forward to his next visit!

Bird experts

This afternoon, we had a webinar with experts that taught us about habitats and biodiversity. We were able to use the knowledge that we have already learned to answer questions about habitats and birds. There are over 11,000 different bird species and we hope to be able to identify some of them when we do our Big Bird Watch event next week!

Building Habitats: Protecting our Planet!

Key Stage 1 have been learning about the importance of plants and trees to our planet but also about how they provide habitats for birds and other wildlife. Today, we started work on our final product for our expedition. Using our experts from the Council, we have planted 5 fruit trees to create a mini-orchard and also many different types of plants to create a hedgerow along the boundary of the fence.

We learnt about how to care for our newly planted saplings and also how we can protect them whilst they are still establishing themselves in their new home. We can’t wait to see how they grow and develop in the months and years to come. Hopefully, one day, we will have apples, pears, cherries and plums to eat!

The trees and hedges were kindly provided by the Tree Council as part of their Orchards for Schools project.

Beautiful Work This Week

XP Festival of Learning

On Friday, staff across our Trust gathered to launch the first phase of our exciting new Teaching and Learning model, with a focus on our culture of Crew, underpinning principles, deliberate & intentional teaching/learning behaviours at its heart…

Staff from our secondaries and primaries grappled with this exciting new model and took part in a wide range of workshops to develop teaching and learning at XP.

More on this next week…

Carcroft School: How Could We Help Our Planet Survive?

In Autumn 2023, Years 5 and 6 completed an expedition looking at the impact we are having on the planet and what we could do to make a difference now and for future generations. They held their presentation of learning last week!

Their final product for this expedition was a picture frame made from sustainably-sourced materials. Students then chose their favourite piece of writing from across the expedition to publish in the frame alongside (or behind) a simple piece of artwork reflecting elements of our learning. Beautiful work!

Early bird revision sessions 8:15-8:40 Mon-Thurs💙

I am so proud of Year 6. 41 of them have been attending early bird sessions since we relaunched last week. The amount of work that has come into school and that I have been emailed has completely covered my home learning display (and the entire wall) and I am so impressed at the high quality. We are so determined to smash our SATs!

My phase challenge is to see ALL of Year 6 in sessions at least twice a week! We can do it!

Future Architects?

The children have been busy being The Three Little Pigs in the builders yard. They have been placing orders for materials, drawing up designs like architects and writing down phone messages. In maths, they’ve been building staircases, using the language of one more, one fewer to notice patterns in number.

I am the…

Today the children have been pretending to be the troll and the goats in the story of The three billy goats gruff. They have used small world, outdoor construction and drawings and have also been writing speech bubbles.

Pride Of Plover

Well done to Kara and Farhan, our yellow T-shirt winners this week!
Kara has settled beautifully into nursery life this week, following routines and getting on with her learning. She is a kind friend and a fabulous new edition to our crew.
Farhan has done some absolutely fantastic maths work over the past week, completing and creating repeating patterns. He has also shown a great work ethic in phonics, trying his best to blend and segment words in large group time.
