We are writers!

We have had great fun this week writing our own descriptions of different rooms within Mr Wonkaā€™s chocolate factory! Ideas were bubbling and expanded noun phrases were brewing then the creativity was really let loose!

I look forward to marking your final drafts.

We are Getting Smart

Using the dictionaries and thesauruses that Mrs Graves has recently bought for school, we have been able to find synonyms and antonyms without having to ask for help! We feel so proud of ourselves and will get quicker at finding the words the more that we practise.

Thank you Mrs Graves, we love these!

Past Tense

In 2L this week we have been writing recounts and have been focussing on writing accurately in the past tense. The children enjoyed finding verbs and then used their magic wands to put them into the past tense. They knew to watch out for the sneaky verbs that were trying to catch us out by not ending in ed.

Time to read Tuesdaysā€¦

In crew on Tuesdays, we take a reading focus. I canā€™t think of anything better than finding a good book and getting completely lost in the story which could take you to anywhere in your imagination. This week, we looked at a childrenā€™s magazine with a variety of different stories in it. We scanned through the magazine to find something that caught our eye and then explained to each other what our attention was grabbed by and why.

Listening Walk

Today in 2L , the children made themselves an extra pair of listening ears and we went on a listening walk to find out what we could hear in school. We crept around and heard all sorts of sounds including cutlery clattering in the hall, birds tweeting outside, doors banging and the jazzy music coming from Y6. The children were really quiet and were shocked by what they could hear when they really tried to concentrate.

We are going to turn these noises into expanded noun phrases and write our very our sound poem. Weā€™ll make sure to blog our final work.

Danum Read Aloud

Last night I had the privilege of supporting Johnny (year 5) at the Danum Read Aloud Competition held at the Danum Art Gallery and Museum.

Johnny performed his piece with real confidence and and lovely expression, despite recovering from a sore throat!

The competition was tough and the prize was won by a girl from another school, but Johnny remained upbeat and positive – a real credit to our school!

Well done Johnny, we couldn’t have been prouder of you!

Check out 3SG’s spring cards

3SG worked well to follow a set of instructions and write poetry for their spring and Easter cards this afternoon. We were all happy with the finished products, well done everyone!
