‘How can our crew be strengthened by acts of service to others?’ – learning about caring for dogs and adoption appeals.

Following our call with the Doncaster branch of the RSPCA, we today worked to support them by sketching the dogs they have for adoption and beginning to type some pieces of persuasive writing, hoping to encourage potential homes for their pets. This required us to recall the features of persuasive writing, as well as develop our computing skills in word processing.

To aid with providing good information in our writing, we also had a visit from Mrs Ogle’s dog where we asked questions about what it takes to be a responsible owner.

I can’t wait to see your finished pieces, they’re looking great already!

Be Kind: How do we show we care?

In F2BP, we have been learning eachother’s names. We talked about feeling special when people know our names. We are going to be kind to our new friends by remembering their names to show we care. The photos show a game we played where we rolled the ball to a friend so they could say their name. After a few rounds, we rolled it to someone and said their name first. By the end, we remembered lots more names.

Crew week

Year 4 have had a lovely morning learning about Plover Pantry and Fareshare. We have also taken part in some crew team building activities building spaghetti and marshmallow towers.

Anti-littering Activism in 3H

3H have spent time looking at a range of different anti-littering posters today. They critiqued the examples we gave them, pointing out the strong elements as well as areas which could be even better! Then designed their own. Some very thoughtful suggestions were made about why it is so important to make sure we ā€˜Bin it, don’t drop it!’

Well done guys. You were fab for Miss Wood this morning and worked so hard with me this afternoon too!

Also, I hope you enjoyed the time you spent with the graffiti artist…just look at your finished product! WOWEE! Please, please, please 3H, take your parents, carers and/or other adults who collect you from school around to see the wall you helped to paint. It really is a piece of art to be proud of and you’ll have your mark on the building forever! Imagine when you’re grown up and bringing your own kids to Plover…You could say, ā€œI did that!ā€

Our expert on resilience and compassion- Ben Parkinson

Today, Year 5&6 were lucky enough to meet Ben Parkinson- a true local hero who has shown so much resilience in his life. As part of first week back, we have been looking at our guiding question ā€˜how can we get everyone to the top of the mountain?’ Ben shared with the children about his injuries and how his friends/crew got him through such a hard time and actually saved his life. He also talked about the time he served in the army and all his amazing achievements and how they wouldn’t have been possible without his peers. He also shared how his injuries have only made him more resilient and how he now he raises lots of money for charity. We felt so inspired after the visit!

We also introduced the ā€˜Ben Parkinson award’ which will be announced at the end of the year and awarded to someone who has shown great resilience all year.

Thank you Ben- you hero!

4GReat First Day Back!!!

It was lovely to see everyone back today and ready to start the autumn term of our new school year.

We have introduced the idea of the positive Character Traits: Respect; Compassion; Quality and Craftsmanship; Integrity and Courage and thought about which traits we would like to develop.

We also discussed our ‘First Week Back’ guiding question “How can we work together to achieve and end goal?” and how that applies to our end product of an outdoor library.

This afternoon we were inspired by books in our outdoor learning to create book images using natural resources.
