Cracking the Morse code!

We have been hard at work in Expedition today. We had a mission to crack a message from the enemy soldiers in morse code and send a message back across using an electrical circuit. We then discussed how morse code was used during the war and how we would have felt if we had that job role. What a fantastic lesson it has been and we have found out how individuals in design technology, shaped history! Please ask your children tonight about Samuel Morse and how he did just that!

A shout out to Craig who has blown me away this lesson by sharing fantastic ideas and answers and coaching his peers to push for green standard! Well done mate!

Picking apart an unseen text!

6B & 6H have also been hard at work picking apart an unseen text- an extract from ‘Carries war’. We were focusing on retrieval skills and it was great to have a discussion sharing ideas before putting pen to paper. We then looked at model answers and critiqued one another’s answers in order to improve them. I was so impressed with their thoughts and ideas! Smashing it year 6, well done!

Awesome learning coaches!

This week, 6H & 6B worked together to support one another in the learning. Children identified if they felt they could coach a friend and then they partnered up and put their coaching skills and rounding skills to the test! I was so impressed with their learning behaviours and even Mrs Ogle commented on how well they worked! Well done to you all! I am so proud of your efforts this week!

Feature hunting!

We have been on a feature hunt this morning. We have picked apart the features of a newspaper report and matched them up to examples to support with our fish bone lesson. We then created our own models for the features to display in our classroom to help us with our writing!

Widening our vocabulary

These superstars have been reading around the text to check for meaning. They have been checking their answers with a dictionary. Then, to challenge themselves even further they’ve been checking for synonyms of the word to widen their vocabulary! We can’t wait to add our new words to our word wall!
