Introduction to Numbots

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are delighted to inform you about an online learning platform called NumBots that weā€™re using to support your childā€™s understanding of number bonds and to help their addition and subtraction skills. These are the essential building blocks for higher-level maths concepts, so we are excited by the impact that NumBots will have on your childā€™s learning.

We will also be celebrating children’s achievements each week in our community crew, where we will be presenting the children’s certificates.

Logging In

The children have been shown how to log in and have brought home a username label containing their unique login details. NumBots can be played on a browser (play.numbots.com) or via the app which is free to download on Amazon, Android and Apple devices. They may need help entering the details, but once theyā€™re in they will be able to play the game on their own.

Please ask your childā€™s teacher if they are struggling to login.

Important: Please donā€™t allow siblings, friends or family to answer for them, as the programme progresses at the pace of each child. Do feel free to support your child if theyā€™re stuck and give them encouragement to keep trying even if it takes a number of times to complete a level.

Children should all have logged in at school and be aware of how to log in.

Little and often

In order to get the best out of NumBots, we recommend that children play regularly for short bursts at a time, aiming for 3 minutes, five times a week.

Game Types

  • Story Mode ā€“ the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, representations and question styles.
  • Challenge Mode ā€“ the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.

Please let your childā€™s teacher know if you have any questions or comments.Ā

LKS2 Dress Up as a Robot Day & Family Learning

We invite children in Year and 4 to come to school dressed as a robot on Monday 6th January to launch our spring expedition.

Please don’t go to any expense – homemade is great.

As part of the day, we will be watching the film Robots which is PG rated. Please inform your child’s class teacher if you do not consent to your child watching this film.

We will be needing cardboard boxes and tin cans to help with our activities in the first week and would be grateful if you could send them into school at the start of the week.

On Friday 10th January, we will be having our ‘Create-a-Robot’ Family Learning event and would love it if you could join us in school at 2pm.

Please see our home-learning task sheet attached.

We look forward to seeing you in the New Year

Circuits in 6B

6B had a great time grappling with circuits this afternoon. Each group successfully created a working circuit, lighting their bulbs and even powered their propellors. They linked this learning to their current expedition by noticing how solar power is used in space exploration. Great work 6B!

KS1 – Humph the Camel

KS1 presents songs around the tree with Humph the Camel.

Performances will be 9.30 and 2.15 in the school hall on Tuesday 17th December.

We are limited to 2 tickets per child.

We are restricted to 120 people in the hall for each performance.

Please complete the booking form to request tickets.

Year 5 & 6 nativity costumes

We do not want parents to have to buy anything new for the nativity.

We are asking pupils to wear the following (if possible).

Pupils who have a part as Mary to wear a plain dress.

Pupils who are playing Joseph to wear their school uniform and to bring in a tea towel.

Pupils in sparkle and shine to wear party wear.

Pupils in the boyband to wear a tracksuit and hat.

The angel to wear a dress.

The remaining children to wear christmas jumpers.

Please do not worry if you feel what you have does not fit the above criteria, we will be flexible with the costumes as the most important thing is your children having fun and making memories!

Please can we ask costumes are in school no later than Tuesday.
