A Sugar Expert Visits Plover

Today LKS2 were excited to welcome a sugar expert to Plover School.

Paul Crystal is a published author and historian and has thrilled us with his knowledge of Why sugar is not so sweet. He shared the history of sugar and how it has been used through the ages.

Did you know sugar was used in medicines? Did you know sugar was rationed during WW1 and WW2? Imagine no sweets or cakes! Did you know that they used to mix plaster and brick dust into sugary sweets?

Did you know that Doncaster is famous for butterscotch? I wonder if you can find the building where Parkinson’s toffee was made and sold in the city centre.

We are scientific report writers! ✍️

This week 4WB have conducted their own experiment investigating the state of jelly and how temperature affects it. For their final write they have carefully written up their experiment as a scientific report. They should be incredibly proud of their beautiful work produced.

Well done Ella, 3G’s Pride of Plover this week!

You have worked so hard this week on your writing, showing great independent thinking! On top of that, you have done fab in your dancing outside of school too!

Super Scientists

I am really proud of the children in 3G this week, they have worked so hard. We have been conducting experiments about solids and liquids and then had a really intensive few days writing science reports. On top of that, we have been measuring the volume of liquid (our current maths topic)- so altogether we have have had a week when all our lessons have tied in together – perfect!

Everyone has shown real determination and resilience and really have worked their hardest.

Well done guys!

Super home learning

Paul has been putting his expedition learning to good use by making dairy free fudge. Following instructions, measuring out and using sugar he has made this lovely treat. It’s really tasty too!

Well done Paul

We are Scientists

3LS have had a busy couple of days being scientists. We’ve been exploring the changing states of matter through a series of experiments and learning how to work scientifically. Do you know what happens to water and where it goes when you heat it? Have you ever changed jelly into a liquid then back to a solid? Do you know what happens to the bubbles in lemonade when you freeze it?
WE DO!

We are scientists

In 4L we have been scientists today and have investigated whether jelly, is a solid, liquid or a gas. We started off by mixing the jelly in water and taking the temperature of the water at 5 minute intervals.

Kind Coach Kiara

Kiara has been a fantastic scientist today. She has not only completed her own learning to a high standard but she has kindly coached other children too. Well done,

Mrs Shuka
