Minty Mentos and Squidgy Soft Mints

We are artists and designers

The children have enjoyed exploring some of the mints on the market before designing their own. We experimented with alliteration and creative language to describe the different tastes and textures. some sweets were definitely more popular than others!

Fantastic Fractions

We are mathmaticians!

Why did the fraction cross the road? To meet her other half!

Today we have been revising our learning on fractions. We can add fractions, subtract fractions, count in fractions, find fractions of numbers, shapes, objects and even solve fraction problems.

You could say we are partial to fractions!

Check out the video here https://keystage2maths.com/y3/fractionsvideos/ for more practice.

A Sugar Expert Visits Plover

Today LKS2 were excited to welcome a sugar expert to Plover School.

Paul Crystal is a published author and historian and has thrilled us with his knowledge of Why sugar is not so sweet. He shared the history of sugar and how it has been used through the ages.

Did you know sugar was used in medicines? Did you know sugar was rationed during WW1 and WW2? Imagine no sweets or cakes! Did you know that they used to mix plaster and brick dust into sugary sweets?

Did you know that Doncaster is famous for butterscotch? I wonder if you can find the building where Parkinson’s toffee was made and sold in the city centre.

We are scientific report writers! ✍️

This week 4WB have conducted their own experiment investigating the state of jelly and how temperature affects it. For their final write they have carefully written up their experiment as a scientific report. They should be incredibly proud of their beautiful work produced.

Super Scientists

I am really proud of the children in 3G this week, they have worked so hard. We have been conducting experiments about solids and liquids and then had a really intensive few days writing science reports. On top of that, we have been measuring the volume of liquid (our current maths topic)- so altogether we have have had a week when all our lessons have tied in together – perfect!

Everyone has shown real determination and resilience and really have worked their hardest.

Well done guys!

Super home learning

Paul has been putting his expedition learning to good use by making dairy free fudge. Following instructions, measuring out and using sugar he has made this lovely treat. It’s really tasty too!

Well done Paul
