Working hard

Our Pride of Plover postcard went to Jacob today. He has had an amazing day, he has worked extremely hard and has been very kind.

Jacob’s friends said that he should get the postcard today as they had noticed how hard he had worked. He was very proud. We are all proud of you too Jacob. Well done.

Exploring bubbles

The other day we did bubble painting and the children were interested in seeing how big we could make the bubbles. We explored this outside today and their favourite activity was having a competition to see how they could make the biggest pile of bubbles. This wasn’t straightforward as the wind blew and the bubbles blew away!

They want to explore with colour next time as they noticed the bubbles made rainbows.

Blending and Segmenting in Phonics for Foundation 1.

Over the Easter holidays, we would appreciate all of our parents and carers, helping their child to concentrate on oral ( not written) blending and segmenting of the sounds in the alphabet, to make words with your child.

There are some very useful videos on ‘Youtube’ to help you with this.

Firstly, this video will help you to teach your child the ‘sound’ each letter makes, instead of it’s name. So for ‘a’ we say ‘ah’ and not ‘ay’. This link is a good explanation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8KR8ThoPl4

Your child does not initially need to be able to write each letter, but if they enjoy letter formation then please concentrate on the letters in their first name. Please write letters, formed as they demonstrate in this video, not capital letters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYYSBProJH4

Secondly, we are learning to say the initial letter sound in each word. This link explains what your child needs to be able to do. Playing the game, ‘I Spy’, is the best way to encourage your child to say the initial letter sound of an object correctly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ffoa9_vfwHo

Once your child can say the initial letter sound of a word, we encourage them to blend the sounds together to make the word, so c-a-t is the word cat. This video explains how we teach blending letter sounds, to make words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWn-qxUddqo

The opposite of being able to blend letters together, to make a word, is segmenting. When we segment letter sounds in a word, we say the word cat and we can say it is made up of the separate sounds, c-a-t. This link explains how to teach your child segmenting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFlJkWJzmMg

EYFS celebration

We have finished our expedition “Where do bears live?” We have learnt about bears, where they live, what they do, where they go and what they eat.

We celebrated with a teddy bears picnic.

Click on the picture. Have a look at the slides and videos of our learning. There are 3 to watch – Goldilocks, We’re going on a polar bear hunt and Bears bears bears bears.

We hope that you enjoy celebrating with us.

We are Earthlings

We’ve enjoyed sharing the book ‘Here we are’ and discovering where we live and what Earth looks like from Space. The book has opened up lots of talking about who we are and where we come from, along with the wealth of languages within our classroom.

We’ve had great fun getting creative to create rockets and our planet Earth. We especially enjoyed bubble printing. It was a challenge to remember to blow down the straw and not suck!

What is a pledge?

As a crew we have been thinking about what pledges are. Today we have thought about how we can make pledges in reading, writing, maths and for behaviour and what these might look like.

We will be using these ideas after the holidays. Well done everyone for your fantastic ideas.

Here we are!

We have had lots of fun this morning exploring the text “Here we are.”

We used Google earth to look at the difference between the land and the sea. We weeded and planted seeds to make planet earth a better place to live and play in. We then created planet earth using bubble printing and collage.

We hope that our seeds grow!

Friday Fun

F2S had a very busy day on Friday, celebrating Red nose day and the end of our current expedition with a teddy bears’ picnic.

We made red nose art, superhero masks, sticky, red jam sandwiches and even stickier red iced buns. We then sat together and shared everything with our teddy bears’ at our teddy bears’ picnic.

Red nose competition

Daisy
Charlotte

Here are the entries for our red nose competition. As you can see everyone did a fantastic job and it was tough to choose a winner. We had to enlist the help of an impartial judge and the winners were… Charlotte and Daisy!

Well done everyone!
