Year 3 Glow Day Crew, Maths and Science

We had great day glowing today!

In crew we were thinking about “What makes me glow” and we had some great suggestions from being with family, to doing well at sport.

We enjoyed some glow maths, with a game of ‘Bin-glow’ and a Glowing Maths Facts pair work challenge, where we tested what we have learnt about place value over the last few weeks.

After a lovely lunch, we worked as scientists and investigated light and darkness – what are light sources and what is darkness. Did you know, the moon is NOT a light source! We then conducted our own scientific experiments, investigating whether temperature affects how brightly a glow stick glows, what does light look like when broken down into its separate colours and how does tonic water glow in the dark.

We had a great first ever Glow Day

Glow day (3F)

3F had a fantastic glow day. We learnt about light sources, and conducted some science experiments with glow sticks. We also played lots of fun games!

Year 3 hockey

Today, year 3 have been carrying on with their hockey skills for PE with activ8. They continued with their passing and defending the ball, working in teams to pass it on. The coaches were extremely impressed with the skills they have seen today and the improvements that have been made. It was quite windy but year 3 persevered through this and had plenty of fun with playing hockey against their friends!

Roman Role-Play

Today in 3GS, we have been role-playing the arrival of the Romans in Britain. We have been sailing for weeks across stormy seas, wading through icy-cold waves and fighting fearsome Celts.

Step Right for the Romans

3GS have been getting active in expedition time, moving to the right for Romans and left for Celts. Can you identify which things were introduced to Britain by the Romans?

Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival is next week and we would love to be able to use this as an opportunity to contribute to our Plover Pantry.

Our students ambassadors have been working hard to plan this year’s Harvest festival. They politely request donations of non perishable foods (tins and dried foods) and have set all crews a challenge. The crew who brings in the most donations will win a milkshake and film treat!

Donating means giving back to our community. Something we are really passionate about at Plover so please support us and donate what you can. The deadline for donations is the start of school on Monday 2nd October but we are welcoming donations from today.

Also please remember that our Plover pantry is open to ALL parents. We always have lots of new and exciting stock and we would love to see more parents there. It is open every Wednesday at 2:15pm.

So come on Year 3 and 4 crews, you never know, you might win the film treat.

Place Value in Year 3

Today in year three we have been been learning to read, write and make numbers up to 1,000. We’ve represented numbers with different manipulatives and learnt how important the place value of a number is. Did you know that the digit 9 can represent 9, 90 and even 900?
